The renovations are done, and now it is time to empty the storage container. I would like to empty it quickly so I could set up my main system, but my wife has different ideas.
So in the meantime, I had been using gear that I planned to sell. However, some of it is selling, and that is giving me the opportunity to use gear that I had never planned on putting together.
And I am loving it!
Initially, I had my Cornwalls set up with my C26 and my Yamaha M40. This was before I set anything up with for sale gear. It sounded good, but not as good as it sounded with the MC2205 and the C26 configured before renovations. Then, I put the C26 away into safety while we started moving stuff around. As I was going through my stuff, I decided to liquidate some gear I have been planning on selling. I started with my bedroom system using the Quad 33 and a Sonance Power amp that I picked up on an impulse and regretted. I hooked those to a pair of Genesis Physics 2 speakers, but they were a bit too big for the bedroom, so I put in the EPI M100s. That was pretty good. When I had a buyer lined up, I was lucky as he wanted me to meet him near by where he paid me cash. All good! But then I needed another power amp, so I decided on using the Quad 303. It was good with the EPIs, but the Genesis were a little too much for them.
So I left the EPIs in, and brought up my dual well yamaha cassette deck to use with the Sony 200 CD player. That had been working well, but I sold the Quad 33/303 yesterday, and my Plan B was to use the other Quad 33 with the M40. Then realized that I had no more interconnects from the peripherals to the 33. Damn! OK, Plan C is to use the M40 with my C26 again. So I dug the C26 out of its safe place and just finished connecting it all up.
Turned everything on, and put on my favourite John Lee Hooker CD. Wow! There is so much more depth in the sound! Same speakers, same peripherals in the same location. I am planning on trying the Genesis Physics II soon, perhaps even tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to hearing the differences.
And this is what I love about this hobby! There are so many variables that can change everything! Eventually, I am going to bring up one of my Bose 1801s to mate with the C26 and the Kef 107s, but I will need to wait until I can get help moving the Bose up here, and then the Kefs up here, and then we will have to move the Cornwalls downstairs. The MC2205 is already down there in safety.
When you change things up in your systems, do you still get thrilled by how good things sound when you set it up? Do you like reconfiguring your gear? How often do you do it?
