The Knife Thread.....

I don't have a big collection, just a few.

ESEE Junglas
Morakniv something or another
A nice little Schrade folder

Thinking next probably a Fallkniven F1 or maybe another ESEE, ESEE 3 MIL or ESEE 4.

Post 'em, I don't know much about the ESEE knives at all and would like to hear about them.

I'm not at home where I can take any actual pictures, but here's a link to the Junglas webpage. It's my zombie slayer. ;)

WOW, Loving these ! Sadly I lost quite a few of my older ones in many moves. Don't have anything really special but they are all special to me. Most were given to me as gifts over the years. Believe it or not. One that means the most is a china made Spyderco that a friend gave me some years ago. He really knew how to put a blade on and its still sharp nuff to shave with. Ironically I mostly use it to open boxes lol

My favorite one of the lot is one my son gave me. I will have it right to the end. He bought it without any guidance and with his own money. I think about that every time I see it. My sharpening technique has evolve over the years, I still have a ways to go before I am full happy with how I do it. I use a combo of stones, steel, and a Lansky system.

I have a routine for Sundays in the good weather. Basically up early, hit the fleas. I broke routine a couple years back as there were several Sunday yard sales nearby. Rare for MA, yard sales are on Saturday. First one I hit netted this one, a Case retractable. I'd never seen one before or knew anything about this style. I could find nothing out about it online either. Finally posted a pic on a collector forum and got more detail on it. You can extend the blade and lock it in position in various lengths. When the blade is locked it is as solid feeling as a fixed blade knife. I almost think it was intended as a fighter/defense piece. But, it was nearly double the price of a standard folder and in the Depression, so a sales dud. I did get one pic sent to me that gave me an idea of its rarity, the bottom one. Same style made the cover of the knife collector's bible -

Does the scabbard mount to a surface inside the plane?

You just press both the 2 side clips on the knife handle and it'll flip out from it's scabbard as it's held in place by a tight spring loaded mechanism.
The SAS and RAF usually carried/attached the scabbard on the outside and/or inside of their boots.

These are not mine, but from the Case museum. I use it as a reference as to what they made for WW2. WW2 US knives are one area I've gravitated towards. The Holy Grail is on the bottom row, 2nd from left, the Case V-42 dagger. Only ~3,000 were made making it one of the most sought after war knives ever. Even with low production, they do keep popping up. Several in the Boston area too. So I keep hoping.....

Amazing collection of Mil-Spec cutlery ! Thanks for sharing....

Hah, I wish all that was mine! That's my "go to" ref chart from the Case museum. My goal is finding the whole set. Poor description on my part, I will go back and edit that for clarity.

A little collection I recently dug out... Trouble is now,I likes 'em sittin' on the shelf.

Yeah, once you get beyond beyond a couple dozen knives, lack of display space definitely becomes a problem. I have one of those old-time wooden machinist`s toolboxes where I keep the knives in my current EDC rotation, but that`s like putting a Band-Aid on a broken leg....

Dang it, was gonna take some pics of knifes but looks like I packed nearly all of em away. this is an old pic of one I traded for years ago. Great Japanese surgical steel, can't remember but think its a Sharade.

This is an 80's bucklite.

The mid to late 80s was a fertile time for the US manufacturers trying out new materials. The Bucklites, Gerber LST, & Gerber 500/600 are great knives. They weigh next to nothing and are tough. Whenever I hike I usually have one with me.

OK,sorry for late reply, had an awful sickness bug. Also, found out a vintage Swedish folding barrel knife.

That kris is nice. Is the blade plated? It does not look right for plain steel. I used to have a lot of ethnic blades but traded out of them as my interest in WW2 knives took over. I've missed a couple barrel knives as estate sales. One maddeningly right in front of my nose in a tool drawer. I mistook it for a file handle when I was pawing through and the guy right behind me grabbed it.

/facepalm

The blade on the Kris is 100% silver. Shame about the barrel knife, they're becoming quite collectable nowadays.

Wow, likely a chieftain's then.

I'll find another barrel knife. Half the fun for me is finding good knives in the wild (or severely underpriced online).
