The Laws of High Quality Audio

That's hilarious! I like the one about the more you listen the worse your system sounds. I swear that is so true! Is it because our ears get used to the sound?

No kidding, there's so many good things in there, I just had to share it. The original author has an excellent handle on our plight.

I think the particular one you point out is accurate because this is our hobby and we're consciously looking for the faults for two reasons being, one, that we're always looking for the "one problem" that is detracting from our enjoyment and that may be cured with an upgrade and two, that we're made constantly aware of the imperfections through reviews, advertisements, and shared knowledge from others.

On the other hand, the longer I listen to my more musical, though less accurate system on my computer, the longer I listen, the better it sounds because the brain adapts to the sound or something.

It is fortunate for me that I lack a golden ear. I listen to my decidedly mid line equipment- nothing bad, but certainly not true audiophile stuff- and think "hey, that sounds really good!". If a switch out gear I usually think "hey, that sounds really good!" Now maybe it is because I'm going from say, Pioneer to Marantz and the build quality is similar, but I can listen to some of my vintage tube stuff and think "hey, that sounds really good!" as well. It might sound a bit different, but I just don't hear much difference between any off it. Speakers change things the most for me, but the it is mostly a "different" sound rather than good/bad.

But no matter what I listen on, Britney Spears never sounds good... why is that??

I think there might be room here for an overarching "Law" that cancels or at least mitigates all others.

"No matter the quality, power, or style of your equipment, the amount of pleasure you derive from it will always be directly relative to how old and damaged your hearing is."

I'm going to add part "B" to fotno's law "and how much you've had to drink." :lmao:

I agree with about 7 things on the list, the rest are one mans oppinion that I find
to be way to extreme and in my oppinion nothing is set in stone so to say allways
is streching it way to far.

KC, consider it permanantly amended, with my grateful appreciation. To be honest, I hadn't thought it all the way through to the effects of drinking... But of all people, I really should have. :beerchug:

da Law

My $.02 goes with fotno's amended Law.
However, my $.03 say that you guys have really kicked it up a notch with the avatars! 0luke: Best. Avatar. Ever. Kegger: close second. I love it. :thmbsp:

"Eight-year-olds, Dude." :D

I agree with most of what is said! I will always want more power even tho right now my systems are louder then I will ever really need. It seems that one system will always better better at a type of music (or specific band/cd) then another. Even if it is a major stretch such as compairing botl with totl gear.

Von.ah Thanks for noticing you are the first to say something, I was begining to think
it was to stupid and had to shrink it to much to make it work here that no one would
notice, I was about to try another avatar! Thanks!

I don't think we should add this list to our constitution when we draft it. Half of them I just plain disagree with. Some, though, like #17 (that if you listen to good stuff, crappy stuff will sound bad), are the story of my life!
