The Long Awaited Meduci PRO1K Tuner Review!

If you thought some of my posts here AK were long, get ready: Meduci PRO1K Tuner Review.

This is the whole story. I've tried to be thorough in my review of the Meduci product and leave nothing out. There's a lot to take in, including details of an A/B listening test setup.

Please note that this review is a "living document" at the moment and will be updated. In particular, the following items will be added: audio samples, a comparison with a component-type tuner that is coming in the mail, and pictures of the Sony car radio to which the PRO1K was compared. Therefore, I definitely recommend that anyone who reads this comes back and reads it again in time, because it will be updated.

I'm disappointed by the behavior of the Meduci LLC business when it came to standing behind their product or listening to what a paying customer had to say about it.

Audio Samples

Hmmm. I'd have expected that there were a few more "fans" of AM radio here on AudioKarma. Kind of disappointing...

For those who are interested in, I just put up my own audio samples from the PRO1K tuner up here.

Thoughts, responses and comments would most definitely be appreciated. Come on, AM radio fans, don't hide!

You obviously know a whole lot about the issues + potential of the unit, and your review will help folks like me decide on buying one, going forward.

Since I own the older version, would you like to borrow it and test the tuning?

I don't know if I'd go that far or not, but I try to be comprehensive and learn more when my own knowledge falls short, so I can talk in some kind of slightly more informed manner.

Honestly, I think the unit has enormous potential if only it were more stable. I'd like to hope that I got a "bad one" but Meduci doesn't think so.

Why yes, I would love to! I'll send you a PM, but for now, suffice it to say that I am more than willing to pay shipping (with insurance) both ways and throw in a little bit for your time and trouble.

I forgot to mention this, but I also have an MCS 3050 tuner to which I plan to compare the Meduci. Whoever built it for Penney's was trying to do a good job--they separated the MCU and control electronics from all of the tuning circuitry. My first impressions are that its high frequency response is much more rolled off than that of the Meduci tuner or Sony radio.
