The insulation on the walls is supposed to be covered with drywall. It says all over the insulation that it's a fire hazard. It's insulation for the weather- today the max temp is 38 degrees F. My shop is located behind my house, accessible from the front, my nearest neighbor is probably 100' from anyone... so I take advantage and BLAST it at concert level. My wife and neighbors can't hear it, and I can heat the space with a propane powered heater. My wife likes classical music, so we have a system with Polk Audio RTA-12s and a Marantz 1200. My college kid likes the home theatre system- Denon receiver (i after e, except after c), B&W 686's, Mirage subwoofer, Infinity center speaker, Mirage rear speakers. He also has two electric guitars (Gibson ES335 and Epiphone SG), a violin, piano and two guitar amps (VOX tube amp and Line 6). About 2000 LPs. My son is a student at USC, music minor. Do you think this family is "into" music?

Wow, that's a great system for a workshop!

In my garage/shop I've got a little Sony "stereo" that I plug my iPhone into.

The "office", which houses my electrical bench as well, is running Spotify through a set of Klipsch computer speakers.

Not even close to yours, which is probably a good deal better than my main system.

Sweet!

Thanks! The main reason it's in the shop is because my wife and son don't like the same music or the volume... and nobody asks how many beers I've had. ;)

Wife and son need to bend a little and I have beer when you're out! :thmbsp:

Redboy- the Trans-fi arm is good. However, and to be honest, I can't say that I hear things in the recordings I never heard, things like that. The aquarium pump is noisy and I do hear it. It's overkill for my shop, but my wife can't seem to figure out how to use it, she says she'll stick with the Project Carbon. My son likes vinyl and says he prefers the VPI/Trans-Fi table. I listen to the Pro-Ject RM4 more than the VPI.

Stanko- I need to finish the cab, fab the water tank, boiler fittings and I'm almost done. The Shay is sitting on the Kennedy roll-away toolbox to the left of the Bridgeport. The Bridgeport is old- 1965 vintage, step-pulley head. No digital read-out's, no Bijur oiler, still has Zerk fittings for oiling the ways. I use dial indicators to compensate for lead screw slop.

By the way- you've got a great stereo system!

Stanko- I've got a Audio Research model D100B which has recently developed a buzzing sound. I called AR and was told that they can diagnose for $120/hour fee, but if it's the caps or Analog Modules they cannot help. Any advice on the Analog Modules? I can get replacement caps, but am thinking about dissolving the epoxy and reverse engineering the circuit. I'm not a EE (I'm an ME, but I can spell EE), but have friends who are.

Thanks!

Nice space ! Hmmmm, you've got me thinking. Since I booted the other half, maybe I can roll the Enco and bench into the breakfast room ?

:scratch2:

My wife is out of town helping with her ill father. I have a Marantz model 1200 spread out all over the dining room table (with a pad), been soldering on the kitchen island, and listening to LPs inside the house. All these things I wouldn't do if the wife were at home...

Even some sheetrock would lighten it up a little... it's in the works this summer. Too cold right now.
