I am not sure how safe this little car is going to be as "none of the models, made by India's giant Tata conglomerate, carry air bags or anti-lock brakes. But they will meet or exceed all Indian safety standards", company officials said. I doubt we will see any of these in the states but still they are interesting.

Who the heck needs saftey standards? For more years than with them we were without and did okay. Maybe it is time we go back to the good old days and start thinking about basic transportation, get rid of weight and mass and increase the fuel economy ratings. I still can not rationalize the government allowing motorcycles on the roads and then requiring all kinds of safety standards for cars. Is the life of a motorcycle rider worht less than a car driver?

I support the Nano concept and can think of any rationale reason for it not coming into N.A. and let the market decide if it can accept the concept.
 
have you see the Indian Taxis that run on compressed air. pretty cool they can run like 200 miles on compressed air stored in air tanks at some unbelievable PSI. An American company came up with the idea and they were going to put 2000 of them on the street in India by the end of last year.
