Eye to Eye - self-titled, 1981. Played this one earlier today. I've only seen 3 copies of it in nearly 30 years. Two of which I have since new. A duo from Seattle that didn't get a whole lot of air time. The female singer has an unusual voice and the music wonderfully unique.

I got nothin'.

Yer kiddin'... half the stuff you play I've never heard of. :D

Chen Min - My Story (Japanese Version), 2002. My friend recently gave me this CD. The young woman is Chinese and plays that Chinese string instrument with a bow... I think, sounds like it anyways. The music is jazzy but that instrument gives it a twangy, weepy, soulful sound. Good stuff!

I also got some Russian (?) liturgy on a French label, made in Germany and on the cover its says "Production USA."

Shvedov / Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom - Slavyanka Men's Chorus / Aleksei Shipovanlnikov director.

Thanks for the mindjog...I'll have to dig out my copy & spin it again. The Gary Katz production gives it a somewhat Steelyish sound.

Cool that you have a copy. I really like this album. I think they have recently put out another album after all these years.

I noodled around Amazon a bit to try & learn more...they released another Katz-produced album called "Shakespeare Stole My Baby" & a couple more since. However...Deborah Berg (who was key to their sound) was evidently only part of the first two...and customer reviews were generally negative about the subsequent releases.

Edit: 175 buckadingdongs for a CD copy of that 1st album...yoicks!!

For the CD?! How much for an original LP?

They put an album out in 2005 called Clean Slate. Berg is on all the tracks and still has that sweet voice. I'm gonna get the CD!

Maggies' Back in Town!! - Howard McGhee, 1961.

You barely hear about this guy and never see his LPs. He was inducted to the 2003 Oklahoma Jazz Hall Of Fame along with Taj Mahal.

"Howard McGhee (March 6, 1918, Tulsa, OK – July 17, 1987, New York City) was one of the very first bebop jazz trumpeters, together with Dizzy Gillespie, Fats Navarro and Idrees Sulieman. He was known for lightning-fast fingers and very high notes. What is generally not known is the influence that he had on younger hard bop trumpeters, together with Fats Navarro.

...McGhee played live with Parker in a club at LA. His stay in California was cut short because of racial prejudice, particularly vicious towards McGhee as half of a mixed race couple." WIKI

The baby from that marriage, Howard "Boots" McGhee Jr. is a photographer, surfer and a friend of mine. I built his web site for him. http://www.bootsite.net/index.html

That's a great LP!!

I picked one up out at Encore Records in Ann arbor last year (what a surprise, eh  ) That's Luther himself in my avatar back at a Summerfest show in Milwaukee in the 1970s

It's a great sounding LP that really takes me back to the North side blues bars in Chicago.

I listened to Michael Shrieve's ~ Stiletto the other day, then when I downloaded it into my computer, I-Tunes (or Gracenote) informed me that it is VERY rare on CD!

Pretty Strange....

Scratch 1 of 7 3:07 Stiletto [VERY rare on CD] Michael Shrieve

I picked up a copy of this one in the past couple of years - haven't played it yet. When I saw it, I noticed it was produced by Gary Katz, the Steely Dan producer so that was enough to risk 50 cents or $1 to check it out. I'm glad to hear you like it. :thmbsp:

It seems to me that the cover art even sort of has the same feel as the Katy Lied cover > the soft green photo on the back cover.

Gotta give Eye to Eye a spin!

On the bottom right there is Japanese writing あいとあい. It translates phonetically to "eye to eye." But it's literal translation is "love to love." Always thought that was kinda befitting.

I must not be searching right because I couldn't find any copies.

Weird. I was looking out of curiosity myself & drew a blank. Some problem with the search function over at eBorg?

Edit: Weirder yet. Tried "Bing"...found a completed listing. Also saw that the seller had relisted the item...took a look & there it was. I recognized it from my previous search--"$1.99 BIN" So...I bought it! Gonna pass it along to my buddy. Weird.

Listening now, nice vocals, keyboards, tight well miked drums, and a stunning production sounds great on the JBL 4430s. My copy has STERLING in the deadwax, mastered at Sterling is usually a sign of a good sounding record.

Check the liner notes: Roger Nichols, Daniel Lazarus & Elliot Scheiner engineered. The mark of excellence in that regard. Some top-notch players, too: Jeff Porcaro & Chuck Rainey for a rhythm section, Rick Derringer, Dean
Parks & Elliott Randall as guitslingers. Donald Fagen adds synth on the final track so the Steely Dan connection is complete. Damn nice album.

And mhardy...I want my Mitchum album back! Mine's identical....right down to the promo sticker.
