The Official US Navy S.O.S. Recipe

I prepared it and liked it. Another thing I learned to like was the limp toast. Buttered this limp toast dipped into Navy coffee..... :D

Ate a lot of it growing up. (We was po and it was cheap to fix, at least back then.) Don't think I had it too often in the NAVY as there was usually a variety of things to choose from on a carrier. (PBJ was the standby for between hours.)

Been years since I've had it, but did go through a bunch of the Stouffers brand after I got divorced, decades ago. May have to make up a batch.

Thanks for sharing.

You always seem to have a problem with Americans, I'm one myself.
Not Americans, just the Mericans that think eating enough food for 4 in one sitting is a meal, Or Fast food more than a couple times a month is ok. We are a fat nation and wonder why we are unhealthily as a culture :dunno:
But I also realize it’s not 100% their fault, 70yrs of marketing. There are exceptions of course, as with anything:thumbsup:

IMHO The Navy had the best chow hall in my 20 year USAF career. But I've only been to one Navy Mess Hall . Keflavik NAS.

Wife and I both experienced this in our childhood households late '50's through '60's. I am personally not partial to salty food, beef, cream sauces or soggy toast. But we whip up a batch about twice a year just for nostalgia. Stirs fond memories of simpler times.

Though I don't recall ever encountering it during 6 years of the Navy. :dunno:

The thing is you do not have to use chipped beef. What is fantastic is to use what was once called “Bully Beef” the UK spam of WW1. It is made in Australia. You can find it in most any supermarket.
