That place is awesome. My buddy Robert Tracy who used to run All in One Electronics said it is the only shop in Ontario he would trust.

"THE SOUND" of any particular gear is probably the MOST subjective of anything in and around our hobby!

I used to devour every issue of STEREOPHILE and TAS during the `80s and `90s and used to laugh at the various descriptors such as, "tubelike warmth, palpable imaging, striking presence, etc., etc.

To me, the K-03 has everything I was looking for in a "reference" cassette deck: rugged transport with heavy duty (read last a long time and worth fixing it when it needs it) construction and discrete componentry. Loads of useful features, built-in demag (that actually seems to work).

The sound? It is a little less "clinical" than my CR-4A. O.k. - "tubelike warmth!"

There.... I said it.
 
No love for Akai? I think any discussion of great cassette decks has to include the GX-F91 and 95. I have the lowly 31 and even on this the build quality is superb. It has been far more reliable that my buddy's BX-300 over the last 25 years.

I was hoping someone would chime in on the Teac Z7000. I have a Z6000 stored away. It has a couple of minor issues and hasn't seen much use. Frankly, I know little about tape decks and rarely use one now. The Z6000 takes up a lot of space compared to my Pioneer CT-F500.

I love my GXC-570D....it has superb transport and build quality!

Hey Big Erik..Your avatar says it all,EH..All kidding aside I am wondering if you have heard from your friend Robert Tracy lately..I had heard he was possibly getting back into the repair business after All-in-One closed..I know him as well and have referred many to him and would use his services in a heartbeat..

I am in Mississauga(so is vinny55,he is a friend of mine)..Send me a PM with your e-mail to keep in touch..Always good to know local AKers..

Nah, life and work have been so crazy that I have not been particularly sociable of late. I gotta correct that! WIll try to find out how he is doing.

I gotta say it was heartbreaking to see all the stuff he tossed in the garbage when he shut it down. Selling irreplaceable old audio parts by the pound. He just couldn't find a buyer for them.

Gotta think about doing a get together for local AK'ers again. Been a few years since I had the last one.

Thats sad he is one of the nice guys in audio
 
Nice machine that Akai is, Dolby B calibration on that deck needed attention since they were not correctly aligned from the factory (I used to own one). The H-K decks sounded good, but were less reliable than equivalent Nakamichis with age.
