Hi.

Some of you might seen my threads about my recap project and speaker restoration but I need to fix a bunch of things now and I need guidance.

All this gear will be driven by a Sansui 1000a and a Yamaha CA-1010.

I will point it out by component :

B&W DM2 Series 3:

Things done :
Recaped crossover with film and 1% resistors
Test surrounds and different components

The bad:
On tweeter and a mid need repair or replacement : I will need to know if is worth to replace or repair? ( tweeter voice coil is gone, mid surrounds are bad)

Technic SB-6000 :

Things done:
Ordered caps to recap, no film on this one.
Ordered New cable to update old cable and connectors ( cable is enough to update DM2 too)

The Bad :
One subs sounds muddy but doesn't seems to be bad or out of alignment.
One Dome tweeter is gone.

So, what would you do if this setup was yours ?

Would you just replace all the tweeter ? ( http://www.parts-express.com/morel-mdt-39-1-1-8-compact-dome-tweeter--277-035))

Would you replace the mid in the DM2 or fix it ?

Would you connect both amps to the same set of speaker somehow ? ( Dunno much about this at all)

Would you upgrade anything else on them ? ( both sets)

Thanks in advance.

Anything can be fixed, it just depends on if the cost to value ratio is acceptable to you.
You could search ebay, audiogon or BarterTown for replacement drivers, but you could spend more repairing either pair than you would on a decent working pair of something else.
I believe they call it a conundrum.........

I'm willing to spend a bit more money to have them at least functional and sounding good , but I will not go out an expend $300 bucks on them.

So any ideas ?

I would stay with the B&W's, refoam the mid surrounds, re-cap with film, etc. DO NOT hook both amps up to one set of speakers- could possibly blow one or both, use a switch box to keep them isolated if you intend to do this! As for the tweeters there are a lot of good ones to pick from on the B&W- try to find the exact ones they came with on an auction site or inquire with B&W, or ask the tech crew at Parts Express.
The 6000's are a fine enough speakers- but I think a 10" two way are as big as one need go I suspect the 6000 has a large mid low driver like an 11" ior so- hard to match up to a good tweeters. Morel does make a good mid tweeter as you found but getting it matched up to your network impedance and freq. wise may be a TALL order!

DM2s are fully recap with film already, I will ask at B&W and Part Express for replacements.

so will be better to find a dome tweeter used somewhere if any appear for the 6000 in that case.

You need to price replacements before making a decision.

Calling PE is great, that being said I would comb sleazebay, audiogon, bartertown, extads etc (as stated above) for factory spec replacements before introducing new dna to the system.

You know....

Every decade had its advances in audio Equiptment and speakers from the early nineties where at a zenith ! If a person likes separates, allot of good solid state was conceived in the seventies...but to really enjoy it a pair of nineties speakers is required ! How many seventies speakers can sound defined and clear all the way up to 300 watts and don't break the bank when you buy them.

Because sound matters !
