The Real Country Thread

I agree with the posts about the "legends" of country. The roots country was far and away the best. But just like rock and roll, the music was diluted by the mid 70s. It became too commercial and seemed soulless. Some of the new stuff is cool, but like everything else, you won't hear it on the radio or in the mainstream music venues.
One thing that really ticks me off is it seems all the country stars look like models nowdays, does that mean ordinary looking folks have no talent? I think most artists now days are judged not by ability, but marketability.
But I am an old fart.

This pretty much sums it all up. Are we all old farts or does most newer stuff pretty much SUCK as opposed to the real musicians of yesteryear. And yes if it IS good you will NEVER hear it, or hear of it on the market.

I noticed in the many good choices made in this thread The Kingston Trio, and John Prine. I'm not sure where to place John Prine, but The Kinston Trio is purely Folk music. Still good stuff.

As to this thread my choices are Johnny Cash, Roger Miller, The Carter Family, Roy Clark, and Willie Nelson.
