The Rolling Stones in Hamburg - 293 years on stage!

The Rolling Stones are starting another tour, and they are going to start it in Hamburg.I recognize them as an essential part of Rock music history. However - my opnion is that they should better stop performing on stage because I fear that they become more and more a caricature of themselves. All together they are 293 years old. What is your opinion? (A discussion please, but no arguments...)

I've seen them in 1990 in Munich, they were still pretty fit back then - I will never forget the concert...

Lets see, Keith put a record out at the end of 2015.
Then the Stones goofing off in the studio for three day in 2016 put out a very good blues album from what they recorded.

They have a new studio album coming out in the next month or so in 2017.

A caricature of themselves? Maybe if you only want to hear their old music from 20, 30, 40 and 50 years ago. And you only want to remember them as they looked in the past.

There is no question that they still put out enjoyable and quality tunes. And I like most of their recent releases.
I just don't believe they can recreate the "concert experience" of the glory years. JMO

Unless you know Mr. Peabody, good luck with living in or truly recreating 1969 again.

I can wear my Levi's Big Bells a tie died T-shirt and a pair of Desert Boots I bought from J C Penny's back in the day. I can have my hair "restored" and once again let it grow half way down my back, like I did back in the day. I can smoke some crappy Mexican like I did back in the day. I can ride to the concert in my buddy's '70 Chevelle like we did back in the day. No mater how hard I try.. it's still 2017. It's far from just physical things that make-up a time period and your not going recreate that and bring it back to "life"
We've all heard it a million times... CHANGE. It affects everything, even the non-physical.

By the way, if you do know Mr. Peabody, let him know I want to go back for 24 hours to New York, Nov. 27 or 28, 1969. Madison Square Garden. First row center would be much appreciated! Oh, let's add an oz. of Colombian. F*** that Mexican.............:D

Good for them. They don't need the money (even spendthrift Ronnie), so I'm guessing they actually enjoy touring (even Charlie).

To a certain degree, touring is probably what keeps these old bluesmen alive and fit.

As for becoming caricatures of themselves, they hit that phase and moved on back in '81.

I agree with all except the last statement. I saw them back then and they were- especially compared to now- still quite young. Not to mention more or less cleaned up although Ronnie was yet to enter his Lost Weekend phase.

Overall, if you can still go out there and do a competent job, go for it. Regarding albums, they will obviously never record another Sticky Fingers caliber record, let alone a Some Girls. But they don't need to.

Based on the thread title I was expecting the Stones to be doing a smaller version or Richard Thompson's "1000 Years of Popular Music."

I remember seeing the posters go up when I was in Hamburg in May. I was tempted to come back for the show. I remember seeing them at Candlestick in SF in '81 -- all day concert. By the time the Stones came on, half the people on the grass field had passed out -- not even George Thorogood could wake them -- so we stepped over the bodies and ended up 20 feet from the stage.

They must have been pretty good according to the radio reviews - someone said: "I've seen them in 1990 and they were so old already back then - but they still mediate a bunch of energy."

Okay then - Chapeau!
