A little more distorted than the original due to the more distorted guitars sound when you layer tracks. It's why rock producers recommend lower gain ryth tracks. When you stack them it sounds more gainy. I need more xlr inputs. I had to multi track the ambient Fender/reverb/room when the original recording had a dozen mic's capturing everything.
For copies of bands I try and find midi files of the drums. Then I run that through ezdrummer. I have about 30 different kits. Then I manually adjust every hit to sound different so it's not as robotic. For every snare I have about 15 different samples depending on velocity. So it's not just turned down 7% it's a different drum hist that's 7% lighter etc. that's how you get realism.
For my own drums I have a beat detection software so I enter the basic beat I want and it searches my library of thousands of beats. It finds similar patterns then I edit that in a piano roll for realism. It's a huge pain but tech is starting to catch up.
Ezdrummer 2 is a godsend. I hate fake drums but making them sound real takes skill IMO. All of my songs are played by a real drummer, albeit via a midi kit.

I've never been a huge fan of the 'tone is in the fingers' though there is certainly truth to that but I sound a hell of a lot better playing a Custom Shop strat through a Dr Z Carmen Ghia than a Jay Turser through a solid state Crate.
Problem with SRV is I saw him three times, twice up close and personal, and he had different gear each time. One Dumble, once with a smaller power Fender and once with a Twin or Vibrosonic. Once he had one Tube Screamer and once he had two, but he always pretty much sounded the same, which is to say, great.
With him more than most guitarists, a lot of his sound was in how he approached the guitar. How he handled it. He made it his b***h. He fought it and won.

Given the size of the USA alone and the amount of gear and the number of AKers this concept seems a little impractical. Only a database that would alert you would be able to do it effectively, and it would have to be fed.
Closest I can come is to suggest the following:
Dollars & Sense has postings on local deals from all over - obviously hit and miss.
Automatic notifications on ebay, set your own parameters for location and keywords.
Search All Of Craigslist is a site that lets you search by state or the entire country at once.
Finally, become an AK Subscriber and watch Barter Town for what you want.

Right! That's why I emphasized that his tone is largely from a tube amps power section being maxed out. Something happens when the power tubes/transformers are stressed and then you push it FURTHER by putting a tube screamer pedal to boost the input and slam the preamp tubes.
It does not matter if it's 40 watts or 150 watts the signal gets rounded off and you get bloom without the scree you get with single coil pickups.
That's why I laughed at the crossroads pedal. You think you can get Cream's tone from a few resistors? No way, he had those Marshall amps maxed out.

I don't think it's hard at all. I'm good at finding vintage guitar stuff locally. If you were looking for good guitar gear all you would have to do is tell me your zip and I would find you great sounding gear via your local listings.
But I'm not experienced in home audio. Not many people are. It's not like I'd search your state for an amp for you. I'd search the zip. That narrows it down. Did you know Facebook probably has half a dozen different craigslist style marketplaces? From garage sales to barter to general classified style listings. There is letgo, Facebook, craigslist, ebay (search via "closest to zip" etc.
I think it would be a rewarding thread. I've done it a few times for friends or guitar forum members. Feels good to help newbs.
I just picked up a Peavey XXX for $50 locally. It's out there. It was missing the faceplate but I had the knowledge to know it was a deal. Big heavy old items, people want rid of them. Speakers rarely get shipped which is why this thread would be good IMO. Speakers getting sold on eBay are always dirt cheap because of the expense of shipping.
Why would I spend my time looking 1000s of miles away for vintage gear that someone living in Florida. Cali, NY etc posted they wanted?
I/others are noobs. I wanted to create a thread where experts could help noobs find speakers locally by providing a zip.
I help people all the time when it comes to guitar/studio gear.

I think it's perfect that Sat night snipers scoff at the "buried treasure" aspect, when I pick up $1000 speakers for $40 that day. That add's credence to my thread that it's DOABLE. You could make somebody's day. Instead you try and **** on it.

If they aren't experienced, they won't know WHAT they want. And the only way to find out is to get into the hobby and try several different options until they find what they like. That's what I mean when I say it's a waste of my time. Sure you can find $1000 speakers for $40. But they need to be the ones knowing that that's a deal and finding it themselves.
