The shed system

It's been a long winter's project but I'm finally done with my listening shed makeover. It started out with stripping, sheathing and reroofing the building. I figured what the heck now is the time to put in some skylights. What started out as one skylight quickly grew into 5. A lot of work to do by yourself but it's well worth all the effort now. Because of all the associated sheetrock dust my set up has been under a plastic drop cloth since Christmas. At times during this harsh winter I really thought I'd never see the end of the project.

Ok the components. Stacked polk sda speakers are my brand new combination and so far I'm quite pleased with the results. Top sda is run by a soundcraftmen 5002 and the 2.3s on the bottom get powered by a mcintosh mc2500. The mac is my newest addition and it really lights up the big polks. It's a major upgrade over the carver tfm 45 that I had powering them before. A clearaudio emotion with a satisfy arm and a clearaudio nano preamp does the vinyl quite well. The tt cover is a custom job. Preamps are an echowars marantz 3600 which feeds the big mac and the sub and a soundcraftmen 4002 feeds it's counterpart 5002. An m+k dual 12'' sub adds a bit more bass.

The shed also doubles as a workshop, gymnasium, motorcycle garage and on some Saturday nights it becomes a bar room. The fridge is a custom built kegerator that holds a 1/2 barrel of clydesdale urine along with the co2.

Luckily the building is far enough away from the neighbors that it's never had a noise complaint. At the wee hours of the morning I can crank the tunes to ear bleeding levels with no worries.

Wow....just WOW!!! that system easily puts my main system to shame. I want it! Congrats on the beautiful setup and space.

Thats great to have such a mix of activities in that room lol. A real but practical dream shed.

Mine would only differ by having an in ground lift and room to park my 72z. :)

Very nice system. That Mac is one massive amplifier. Do you have any problems with your wood-stove throwing off heat next to your speakers? Do you have some type of shield between the stove and speakers?

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Yes that mac is a real beast. I was afraid of the shelf not being able to hold all that weight so that's why it sits on the sub.

The woodstove is actually an electic job and I don't use it for heat. It was a freebie when the neighbors moved out and I took it home for the realistic looking fire.

If I guess correctly, that is the motorcycle club room with the best sound system ever. I can't even begin to imagine how much it must have hurt to see all that stuff tucked away in the corner without being able to listen to it while you worked...

You have a picture of the exterior of the "shed"? It's not like the sheds we have around here. BTW, nice gear!

Maybe "Shed" is a generic term for outbuilding in Connecticut.
Awesome setup.
Which SDA's are those? Are they cabled to each other? What are the bottom ones resting on? Did raising them affect the bass response? Is that too many questions?

Yes I'll have to post a couple pics of the outside. It's certainly nothing special but it gets the job done. It was originally built in the 40's as a chicken coop. I had other ideas when I bought the house 23 years ago.

The sda's on the top are bookshelf sda's. Crs is the model. The lower ones are 2.3s. No they're not cabled to each other. Both sets have their own correct interconnect cable though. I can play either set alone or all of them together. Makes for a very impressive soundstage when all 4 are playing in sync. The bases are diy 2x8 boxes attached to some leftover formica pieces from the 2 racks that the gear sits on. I made those just a couple of days ago. As far as the bass well before the mac I could play the big polks and the sub as loud as I wanted without any tt rumble. I can't do that now with the mac. Bass has improved greatly and I'm not sure if it's new placement, the new amp or a combination of both. My guess is the 130lb amp has a lot to do with it.

Whoa! It's nice when your own work comes together. I guess you've had a busy winter indeed. It looks beautiful.

Next we'll have to call you motor "two sheds" stereo. (Monty Python reference)
