OK, so you need to have a few th8ngs in place to play DSD through foobar2000. Foobar2000 is a modular playback program so you need to go find and download components that you then load in foobar2000 on your PC. So you will need the SACD decoder add-on, you may add other add-ons for some other file types like DVDA for example.
Also you need to install the ASIO driver set for the M500, and I think there’s a firmware patch maybe? I can’t remember offhand but probably. And there’s an ASIO component for foobar2000 too.
if you have an iPad, I recommend trying MonkeyMoteHD. You also need to install the add-on for that in foobar2000. It’s super convenient and a great way to control playback via wifi. You can quickly scroll through large lists, it’s great.

This is an example of a foobar2000 tutorial. There are videos on YouTube and such. Once you get the hang of it, it’s not bad, but there is a learning curve. After you have your components installed it’s a powerful platform and it sounds great.
I also recommend milkdrop 2.0 visualizer, although the install is tricky, I’ve had struggles but when you get it set up properly it looks wild. And I would look into some quick tips for optimizing your audio output on a PC, there are many threads and web sites on the subject.
After all the components are in place, there are settings that you need to adjust nothin Windows, and in foobar2000 that coordinate the proper output to the DAC. It’s not plug and play with foobar2000 but it’s flexible, there’s a ton of options, from driver options to EQ’s to bass/subwoofer management, ripping, converting, and on and on.
If it’s too much of a time suck, you can buy software like jriver for example that I think is more plug and play. Foobar2000 is barebones and you build it out as you need to.
