These or those speakers question for midband frequencies

Hi everyone, just got 2x 8" heppners from an organ, these are so nice looking! "Almost sexy even!"

I have two different sets of speakers and I plan on using them as "midband drivers" in design and construction of a open back 3way speaker system and quite frankly I'm having a hard time choosing what set to use they both have their qualities....visually and sonically.

I Have two dual speaker dual driver sets for stereo on the first one. 4ohm x2 for 8ohm series connection. Heppner's are 8ohm.

First set of pics is from a magnavox AM10 table top radio 6" duosonic drivers and are good for 5w-8w each? Itsa guess!

Second set of pics is 8" Heppner speakers from an organ
15w-20w ? No clue really. Really really nice looking to me though!

So cast your vote and help me before I go build two sets of speakers outta spite! <‐-----ahhhh let's not kid ourselves this will most likly be the outcome anyway lol..

Yes me to friend, but what set of speakers the heppners or the maggies as they both have nice alnicos magnets.

My concern is the dried out and brittle cones spiders and surrounds,
My rule of thumb at least as far as woofers and sometimes Mids,
Cast frames are always preferred, over thin cheap stamped ones.
And this is argued ad nausium Alnico is more valuable

they all check out and are in excellent condition fully inspected the basket, spider, cone assembly and also they sound really good at high low-power levels
Nothing brittle about them what so ever machnicley or sonically cones are in excellet shape.

I'm building fairly low watt open back speakers 60-70 watts of power handling maybe and would like to stick to the antiquated, traditional drivers but if something happens to run "amok" <----lol... I can repair them including resetting the spider, baskit, voice coil assembly without any real harm done. "Its easy peasy"

That is not a matched pair of drivers, they are distinctly different and i suspect intentionally voiced differently. While the motors are essentially the same, the cones are very different. I suspect one was optimized to cover lower octaves, and the other was voiced to carry the upper end without the use of any kind of electronic crossover.

Perhaps I should correct my wording they cam out of a single AM10 radio and like you said they cover diffent frequency spectrums but they are designed to work together to cover a broader frequency range in the same radio. "Why I said matched" sorry for the confusion.

Yes I feel the same way about the heppners myself "some dame good lookin drivers right there" the pics don't do these speakers any justice as in person these speakers including the 6" duosonic's look really cool and sound exceptionally good to me.

On the back of the cone, hand written "R/C 11 - 11 - 11" A common practice among professional re-coners.

Is your worry on the thin basket about resonate ringing of the basket?

unless you really push them for max output.
More about the added complexity and cost of the casting compared to the stamped throw away frame.
Obviously collect-ability and Resale.

Ok.. this has no effect on me though.. as Im building for fun and hopefully a good sounding set of speakers.
I know its hard to tell from pictures of speakers online but I'm doing the best I can to pick and choose drivers that don't have to many miles on them and so far so good, like these heppner's.. they have been reconed and I didnt even know until bowtie pointed that out thanks bud! .
Got real lucky with those and several others for this build
I don't intend to resale these speakers at all but if they happen not to work for what I want they can easily be repurposed to nice low watt tube practice amp's. The 8" heppners that is.
The duosonics will go back where from which they came just to keep the AM10 and the AM7 original, they are nice looking AM tabletop radios. The AM7 is in desert sand paint looks similar to the AM10 just has a different dial plate. Ok you guy's I have come to my senses and will restore these radio's to there former glory.

Ok went to get a real close look at the 8" heppners and the glue used is pink for the baffle gaskit not that crusty old yellow stuff... so surely this is a reconed set dont know about anyone still up right now but I'm Flippin stoked about this. Lol...

After further testing of the 8" heppners have come to the determination that they are not sensitive enough to match the magnavox 15" or the 12" zenith so just for this reason im going to install the duosonic's for the midband frequency driver.

Total bummer because I love the look of the heppners... but ok they will be used in a small SET stereo guitar amp with mechanical effects. "Another project intirely".
