Is this guy right or wrong? I would think that Bose speakers would have to be right and left. Pardon me for my Ignorance too but when I see Bose 901's it is the v shaped side that faces you is it not?

I've seen my dad's Bose speakers years ago. I don't remember the model but not big like what is in the pic but I do remember one side is a mirror of another side. The two in the pic you're showing are the same, not mirrored. That would be my guess why the seller is saying both are right side.
 
I doubt that you would notice at all. I'd get 'em...then start the hunt for the EQ. Cool stands are a plus.

BTW: Clones of the Bose 901 EQ exist...I have one somewhere.
 
Actually the flat side faces the front, the angled sides face the rear wall. It should not affect the sound at all, if so, flip one speaker upside down... the series two is a decent enough speaker, be prepared to pay $100-150 for the EQ, though.
 
Looks like My Series II, except mine are mirrored. More cosmetic than anything.

I have a Series I that was ordered within a month of them being announced. They are not mirrored, but you have to poke at the cloth to tell.

The equalizers need to match the series number. Starting with series III, the drivers are completely different, and the enclosures are not acoustic suspension.

Don't fool yourself that you can use them without the proper equalizer.

Yes I realize this limits you to using iTunes ( which I do enjoy on my computer setup) but this would at least get you up and running while you search for the correct one.

Of course you can. I've got a set of IIs with a standard graphic right now. Sounds nice. And I've owned several pairs and variatiolns of 901s.

I think the IIs sound much better than the later ones, and they don't suffer foam rot.

To the OP, the mirror issue will not be a problem. The stands make that pair worth the price if you want a pair of 901s. If you are not searching specifically for 901s, then I'd say pass.
 
IIRC, the Bose EQ is essentially a parametric device with the bulk of its effect in the bass region. You could probably use a graphic EQ to approximate the effect of the Bose EQ by placing all controls above, say, 250hZ or so in a "flat" position & manipulating the lower controls to get the bass response desired. A slight midrange tweak may be needed as well.
 
The IIs have reasonable bass response as is. I just spent a good while researching the eq curves because the last set of 901s (IIs) I got didn't have an equalizer.

At first I tried a pair of cheap piezo horns added to them. This made for acceptable response for a party atmosphere with some added bass and treble tone control action.

Here is a pic of hte curve that I came up with on the graphic, after studying the avaialble printed eq curves and thru listening.

There is a little cut at about 2 k. Serious boost in the treble, and moderate boost in the bass.

I'm not putting this forth as perfect, but it is totally workable.

Just the speakers and the piezos would be fine for bar music.

For 150 i would consider picking those up if i were you. If you buy them and want the bose eq, i can see how much the pawn shop wants for the one they have. i would have no problem picking it up for an ak'er and shipping it out. I couldn't see it being too much as they don't have the speakers to go with it. LOL

Is there more than one model of the eq or would it work for all of the different series?
 
I would def be interested in the EQ to complete my set if the OP doesn't go for these.

The original EQ, and Series II III are bout the same, Vi and up are different.
 
Ok i will drop by there sometime this week and see if its still available and what model its for. I don't see why it wouldn't still be there.
 
And the IV...

Looking at it, don't most eqs add/cut 10 to 12 dB? The IV needs 18 and 22 dB boost, so it is well above the max for the run of the mill eq. You are looking at 60 Hz and 6kHz frequency response with a 10 dB boost, not what I would call decent.

Those high boosts are at the extremes and only for the ported models, which is why I like the non ported versions better. You can mentally slide the whole curve down on the graphic and get the necessary curve. There is 24 db of control on any EQ. It is all relative. Besides, it's not like these things are ever flat. :smoke:

I saw them yesterday. They are in nearly perfect condition. Series II as he says. They come with the stands. I passed only because the 2 rights thing. I would suggest you go for it if you are near enough. I think he would ship if you asked and he seems a decent sort.He is a member here, but then again who isn't!
