They could be sleepers

Anyone recognize these speakers? I was told they are vintage AR 3a's. Just picked up this pair of speakers at an estate sale. They were working a week ago but it appears something happened. Can the cabinets be glued back together and reveneered? I'll be re-capping the crossovers and refoaming the woofers.

Yes you just need to build new AR3a cabinets, and then find AR3a components and crossovers. Install with AR3a binding posts in the back and build some grilles. That should get you most of the way there from what you're starting with. Nice buy.

Perfect for that air suspension tt you posted. Great start to a truly high-performance rig, phono and speakers, input and output, the most important parts. Now you can concentrate on electronics that match well with these two units.

I found an amp and posted it in the General Audio forum.

Kudo's to @homebrew!!!!

Knowing that all they would need was a little TLC you made a great choice taking a chance and picking those up.

Not all of us have the ability to restore speakers to their former glory so I commend you on a job well done and more importantly saving an iconic speaker from the scrap heap.

This speaker is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone to meet its maker. This is a late speaker. It's stiff. Bereft of life, it rests in peace. It's rung down the curtain and joined the choir, invisible. This is an ex-speaker.

Nah, it’s just sleeping.
