Thiel 04a surround help please.

image.jpeg image.jpeg Hello AKer's. Living in Kentucky for most of my life, I have been interested in picking up a pair of Thiel speakers made in Lexington, Ky. Finally found a pair of 04a's in nice shape, except as expected, the surrounds are shot. I'm going to order new surrounds and replace myself as I have done this many time with others. I'm having a little difficulty finding the appropriate replacements. Has anyone here refoamed these before. They appear to be 6 1/2" diameter but the surrounds seem more like 6"? Any help is appreciated.

You need to take the measurements from the front side of the woofer. You need to know the inside & outside diameter of the frame lip, the diameter of the cone, and the inside diameter of the old surround.

You also might want to contact Thiel. They are known for having very good customer support!
 
image.jpeg Finally got around to putting new surrounds on these. Spending some time this evening listen to assorted genres. I must say, I'm pretty impressed.
 
I love the sound and looks of Thiels. I remember the surrounds were an odd size or something. I completely refinished the cabinet in a lighter cherry and put on new cloth.

Does your speaker orientation match the shapes on the grill cloth?
