I just scored a free pair of these speakers. Apparently the previous owner had aggressive cats. One has a woofer surround that is shot. I know there's a guy who rebuilds them, but I'm thinking of getting the replacement from Madison (https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.c...canspeak-classic-p17wj02-04-6.5-woofer-4-ohm/). My gut tells me to replace both.

The tweeters seem fine, if a little bright. Does the ferrofluid need replacing? Do you have to take apart the driver to do it?

I have done pretty much the same thing. The newer scanspeak in sound are well built. The surrounds are of a softer material/not hard plastic. I am soldering the 2nd woofer on today. Also, tweeters seem bright, but man with the right amp, these sound great with jazz, and make me want to listen to more sparce music-like guitar and concert off the radio.
