Things I like about the new format

A thread on positives about the new software package? Here are some things that I think are better:

1) Seems faster to me. I can't prove it of course. Actually seems quite a bit faster loading pages.

2) Bookmarks (FireFox) from the old format work. I may be in the minority here, but I have saved a ton of bookmarks (a couple thousand, yeah I'm weird, lol) , organized by topic, and these are all still good!

3) Embedding pics from my computer (not using an image hosting site) is much simpler.

4) Avatar size standardization saves screen space. In the old format, it was wasteful when someone with a tall avatar posted a single line of text. A couple-three of those could fill a whole page...lots of air, very little relevant dialog. But smaller avatar sizing in the new format reduces wasted screen space.

What things have you noticed that about the new format that you like better vs the old?

I agree with roger2's numbers 3 and 4. I also like the new conversation instead of the old PM. IMO they are much easier to read.

Just discovered that you can now edit thread titles. Definitely could not do that with the old software package.

Hopefully this new format will weed out the complainers and luddites. I'm getting tired of the wasted threads related to users who can't or won't adjust to this format. Don't go away mad, just go away.

The native mobile device interface is superb. I'm on my iPhone and have full use/functionality with an intuitive and sensible interface. The old Tapatalk interface was convenient, but too limited in its streamlined implementation in my opinion. <-- I even added this guy with just a couple clicks.

I like the drag and drop of images:)

Uplaoding YouTube videos is much easier.

The way you can quote on this format is better as well.

Thanks for posting. Yes, there are plenty of threads with questions and/or complaints. The adjustment process will be trivial for some, and more difficult for others. That is to be expected.

It would be great if posts in this thread could be limited to only features in the new package that someone likes, without suggestions, complaints, etc. If that can happen, users could come here to discover helpful new features without having to sift through the types of posts that are already filling up dozens of other threads.

I'm happy with the new format.
I just discovered the drag and drop of images into the reply box, that's awesome !... and the quote system is nice !

Really like the look of the new site on my mobile device, and the "alerts" function in the upper corner.

This is kinda nerdy but I noticed if I link image attachments from pre-transition posts they're only visible if I'm logged in. Otherwise they're just icons. What this means is that when you actually see the full image you're not just viewing something in cache. Why I think this is cool is that it seems to validate the status of the link each time you see the actual image.

You can assume that if you can see the image others can too assuming they're also logged in. I don't know the mechanisms involved but it may have something to do with the browser not associating the attachment link with a copy of the image that actually is stored and available in cache. Anyhow I'll log out now and go see if my linked attachments in a post in Tuners revert back to icons.

Edit: yup. With the old software it seemed that dead image links would still look OK until you cleared your cache and discovered otherwise.

Just discovered that private conversations can include up to 6 members. Interesting option to have, could come in handy.

Yeah, good point. Those old PMs turned into a dog's breakfast if you had a conversation beyond two exchanges.

I think you all have covered everything I like about it, thus far. Really getting comfortable with the new format.

The whole site works slicker 'n snot once I got used to it. :bigok:

Job well done, Luther, Ernie and Grumpy.

I know I mentioned this elsewhere but with the old software when you linked a single post that's all you got was the single post in isolation from the rest of the thread it was in. With this new software when you link a single post the software takes you right to the thread itself and lands right on the post so you can read not only the linked post but can also scroll up and down before and after the post.
