It depends what tone you’re looking for. We tested a vintage Polytone, and it sounds like George Benson for sure - it’s a distinctive sound, but not a pure jazz tone, more like a modern edgy tone. That definitely an SS can do, in fact you probably need SS to get that tone.
I was bent on getting a PolyTone, because George plays one, but not after trying one. Works for George, but not really the classic jazz tone that quality tube amps excel at.
