Putting the finishing touches on an amp I've repaired, just the corroded cap glue damage and the binding posts, and I find a burnt open trace while flux cleaning a board. So I repair it and fire (more on that later) the thing back up to see what might have been amiss. The amp was working (so I thought) although I hadn't yet gone through the idle current adjustments.
Ever see a flame throwing 2SC2773?
After dis-assembly, it appears this might have had a minor short through the transistor pack-mica-heatsink bond and just popped the trace. Another theory is that since one screwhead is missing form the flat pack, it had been shorted in a prior life. My rework sparked new life into the circuit. Surprisingly, although it will still need replacement, the Sanken checks out OK on the meter.
