Things you don't see anymore.

I was using a Rat Shack $ 1,200.00 sold "transportable" 5 watt output, starting the phn`s activation the last day of May 1987 that used in the portable mode 6 D cell gell cell lead acid batteries..
Heavy sucker, and stayed installed in my van 99% of its use..

But was comforting for the "I`ve Fallen Down, and Can`t Get up" security safety it provided for my cripple ass while on the road.
I remember when my parents hit the "big time" with a bag phone. They kept it a month and returned it. They would literally be "roaming" sitting in the driveway of the house.

How did we survive before the advent of the cell phone? I remember watching TV shows as a kid and seeing all of these "important" people with phones in their cars. J.R. Ewing, Jonathan and Jennifer Hart, Charlie's Angels... I always thought how neat it would be to have a "car phone!"
Makes me think of Steely Dan "Kid Charlemagne".

Thanks Skipper! I had forgotten the thrill of going to the 7-11 or a U-Totem near my Grandmother's house in the early 1970s and seeing a rack like this. She'd give me a dollar or two in quarters occasionally - I could get sometimes four comics and a candy bar. Remember sometimes DC Comics would have double-thick Super issues, which were as much as .75 or a dollar, instead of just .25 for one. Most of the time I liked Sgt. Rock, Sgt. Fury or Spiderman, the Fantastic Four or the Sub-Mariner. Finally, I remember nobody bought the 'romance' or dramatic 'doctor'-type comics; they were dog-eared and faded as if they had sat for many months...

So, after spending a fair amount of time on this thread waxing nostalgic, there are too many great posts to pick “the one”.

However, if we had a contest tomorrow to see who posted the most that put a smile o
a most on most of our faces, hands down it is @Shominy.

I actually DM’d Shominy at one time complimenting on all of the great posts to this thread.

Shominy is N° 1 in Audiokarma Entertainment!
