Great information and hope that you find it useful!:thmbsp:

There are a few things that can be done in time of grave emergencies. Your Mobile Phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things you can do with it and pass it on to others if you believe that would be benefit:

FIRST
Subject; Emergency
The Emergency number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage are of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND
Subject: Have you ever locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have a remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and have spare keys at home, call someone at home on their cell from your cell. Hold your phone about a foot away from your car door and have the person at home press the unlock button, holding it near the phone on their end. Tour call will unlock. save someone from having to drive thye keys to you or calling a locksmith.

Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's note: It works finr! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over the cell phone!

THIRD
Subject: Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#. Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you you charge your cell next time.

FOURTH
Subject: How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your mobil phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This # is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. If your phone gets stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to immedietely block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/resell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no pointin people stealingyour phone!
And Finally!
FIFTH
Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information callswhen they don't have to. Most of us don't carry a telephone book in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. when you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial (800) FREE 411 or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this number into your cell now!

Great info! Thanks barrynsue!

You actually tried that car unlock thing, and it worked? I can't say that I understand that one. I will have to try it too.

Thanks again!

when I received this little tidbit and before posting on the board, I had my wife send the signal. It did in fact open the door! I was quite surprised when I actually heard the click of the lock! VERY COOL!:D

How far away were you? Are you sure the signal from the key fob didn't just reach?
I call "bogus" and Snopes.com backs me up.

You may be right! I will have to check it later on when I am farther down the road as I didn't really think of that. It normally does not work from the other side of the house but I may have been duped by my own ignorance!

A little more investigation on this may be called for.

I have a Motorola Q. At this point, I use about 2 percent of its features. Hopefully that changes as soon as I get the manual. Thanks for the cool info.

I've never known Snopes to scrimp on research or data confirmation. If they're wrong, this will be the first time in my experience and I've been checking reality against Snopes for years. It is always my first stop when confronting doubt.

Try driving a mile or two away and do it. If you can open the car over the phone, please advise Snopes about the circumstances, they'll update the info.

Since most phones do a barely passable job of tranmitting analog voice info, I'm having a tough time believing that you can somehow open a car door at a distance, since the key-fob signal is an encoded RF data stream at some MHz frequency.
