Thinking about picking up a 665-VXi

I've read various posts on the 665-VXi and Im thinking about picking one up for less the €200,- in working order.
I currently run an almost fully refurbished 645-VXi which sounds great by the way and I'm wandering whether or not its worth it to start this project. Besides the power difference...would a well refurbished 665-VXi basically sound somewhat better then the 645-VXi in general? The music comes from a rasberry PI with Volumio with Qobuz driving an SMSL sanskrit 10-th edition DAC with Kef Reference model ones as speakers.

Besides the fun of refurbishing...would you say its worth it? I'm taking into account an average of €150,- of components to be replaced.

Probably more of a lateral move than an absolute upgrade.

There may be a bit more power and a few additional features but I doubt it will make you look back at your 645 with disdain.

If you are looking for a fun winter project it may be worth it, if you are looking for a watershed moment, look elsewhere.

Yeah...thats what I expect as well but the fun to get it going like it used to is pretty strong. I will not expect miracles but a solid fun disco party for the kids should be possible:)

I stand corrected......I found some info on HiFiengine.com that indicates the 665 is significantly more powerful than the 645...150wpc vs 60wpc, I would expect a significant improvement by upgrading.

Well thats all fine but I would already be glad if I get the same sound quality as the 645. A bit better would be bonus:)

I've got a 660 and a 635. Their is a notable difference. Sounds fuller and has more "heft." Tighter bass, a bit punchier. But you aren't going to turn around and call the 645 a steaming pile.

Project is closed for now. Made a bid on one and actually agreed with the seller to pick it up but meanwhile he sold it to someone else....**** happens.....

Found one in eastern Europe for a very reasonable price. At least its working which makes the refurbishing slightly easier:)

I own one, it's great.... But... Clean all the little knobs, selector switches and potmeters with deoxit d5 heavily. Especially the input selector and the little knobs are notorious. Other than that it is a fantastic amplifier, open spacious, detailed and very very powerfull

Before I knew how to repair things, I e-wasted a 655. Make sure its the good one with two transformers. it should have like 3 fuse holders on the back panel. the video shows the back for half a second moving, why bother.
