Thinking of upgrading from B&W 802D1 to Focal Utopia Scala Evo Speakers

I have found that the b&W 802d1 are bright, harsh, especially in the upper midrange. I’ve changed out electronics and cables and eventually realize that the problem still exists.

I’m considering moving on to the Focal Utopia Scala Evo speakers.

Review on these speakers say that they are equally as bright, yet I didn’t get that sense auditioning in two stores on very expensive electronics.

Please, what are your thoughts….

Have you considered adding a 12 band (or more) equalizer to your system?

It's likely not the speaker that's the problem ..

Room placement and room treatment are majorly important and almost always overlooked ..
Typically it's not the speaker, it's the room and speaker placement.
They're a 3 part combination that's indivisible.

What you're describing is the typical symptom of a bright room ( too many hard reflective surfaces) ..
Adding an absorbent wall hanging at the first reflection point (look 20-30 degrees off the front surface of the speaker to the wall) will make a big difference.
If you're lacking carpet, soft cushy furniture, or long drapes, this will also do it ..

The upper midrange is bouncing all around the room and reinforcing itself where the waves cross ..
