This guy was selling a Dynaco SCA-80Q amp/preamplifier and a Rotel 400X receiver. Now he did go into the description of the Dynaco which was no where near the actual condition. If you look the pots are all blackened and need not just a good cleaning but a few cans of Deoxit, steel wool, tooth brushes and any other toll to make this come back if it even works. The rocker switch does not light and the power cord has been changed. Why does this bother me so much I'm selling a Dynaco Pat-4 in compared to this device is in pristine condition. Yes it's America and buyer beware and nobody is twisting any arms but I think he's not really representing this unit as it should and the price should equally reflect it.
I did e-mail him this thoughts and he was not mad and said he would consider cleaning it up a bit.

How can you tell the pots are blackened? I don't see any internal pics and even if there were, couldn't tell how dirty they are. RCA jacks are dirty, but other than that, I've seen a lot worse.

OK.. first off, a link to a CL ad is verboten here...

Second... the guy seems to be honest in that ad... I don't get how you selling one has anything to do with this guy selling one.. it's called COMPETITION.... that's what makes Capitalism work... kind of... (;

Lots of fail in this thread.

OP mistakes pots for RCA jacks and on the old Dynaco pieces these discolor and probably need a tune up, tightening them to make great contact again. Many replace them

moe is lost so I'm seeing if I can list all the branches in this thread so he can find his way

James says this is in the wrong forum but it is now in $&¢ and that makes the cl listing ok.

And teal'c is concerned about the fact that the op mentions he has a preamp with better RCA jacks. The op should change the wording to say he owns a unit in nicer shape, just deleting the reference disallowed talk.

Overall, much ado about nothing, typical AK.

Are you taking the piss out of us? I ask because that CL description is atypical of oh, I don't know, MOST of them involving vintage gear?

From the post -

All of the controls on both units would benefit from cleaning and lubrication (there is some audible static when operating some of the the rotary controls). All of the rear input / output jacks could use some cleaning or de-oxidizing for best performance on both units, particularly on the Dynaco. Both units show some wear on the front control panel including worn letter stenciling.

The Dynaco Amplifier has had the power cord plug replaced. The left input jack panel on the rear has been repaired. The light on the power switch does not illuminate. The chassis and casing both show wear, including scratches and some areas of corrosion. All the controls seem to work as intended. I am not familiar with how this amp should sound but I connected a CD Player to the input labeled Spare and the amp sounded pretty good to me, and plenty loud. The original User Manual for this receiver is available online for download. There are many replacement parts, upgrade parts, information, and documentation for this amp available online at UpdateMyDynaco.

Did this post start out somewhere other than D&S?

I don't think I saw it anywhere but here.

Maybe OP is selling the unit, sly way to get the message out.
OP complained about the RCA jacks as being discolored from corrosion and misspoke that they were the pots. Complained about other issues the seller mentioned and is concerned that his unit is so much better. So what. I have some sweet gear and some clunkers, too. Maybe it was that the CL ad written to describe the unit and hopefully sell the unit was decently written and the OP thinks there are some exaggerations in that ad as his unit is so much nicer. We gotta get the OP back to tell us the truth.

Decent price. Ad's still up, so somebody jump on it and put the OP out of our misery ... <G>

i still dont think you are following me...

i dont see why the op had a problem with the ad. the seller describes condition in an appropriate manner and is open to offers. i was confused as to why the op had a problem to begin with. i'm not lost, i was just trying to be a smart ass i guess...

i see what you are saying and i agree with your point as well

We need the OP to tell us why. We think the ad is fine, describes the units issues and such. But the OP says "Now he did go into the description of the Dynaco which was no where near the actual condition." And therein lies the rub. He thinks it is falsely proclaiming the unit to be better than it is. We see it as fairly represented it seems.

To be honest the Seller's listing is pretty detailed, Which you don't see a lot, and the pictures are pretty clear.

I'm not sure why the OP is exaggerating his interpretation of the picture and if the unit works saying stuff like

"the pots are all blackened and need not just a good cleaning but a few cans of Deoxit, steel wool, tooth brushes and any other toll to make this come back if it even works."

That's what I would expect the inputs to look like for a unit of this vintage that more then likely had been sitting unused for many year.

The seller also states "I connected a CD Player to the input labeled Spare and the amp sounded pretty good to me, and plenty loud."

So I guess it works

Might be the OP doesn't know that an eraser or metal polish will shine up those jacks fairly easily. And one can of deoxit will more than clean up the noisy controls it would seem. Deoxit isn't for making those RCA jacks look new. Steel wool is something one needs to be very careful with around electronic components.

So it's a fail if I do it, but fine if you do it?

All bow to King Fail...

its gotta be...

from the ad
"Sonicaly nothing wrong w/ device all inputs works and has 2 out put pots for 2 amplifier if wanted."

If in fact this is the OP's, he states in the ad "I am selling my trusty vintage from the '70s Dynaco Pat-4 solid state pre amplifier...... Sonicaly nothing wrong w/ device"

Yet if you read this, sounds like a different story
