This is bizarre…

Hello fellow Klipsch Heads, hope your enjoying yours as much as I am mine. Man I’m actually loving mine, KG 3.5; but Something Stange is happening with them

Last week I was looking for a cd to play, rack is in close proximity to the left speaker. I noticed a low static hum coming from the speaker, strange as the receiver was off. I listened to the right speaker, same hum. I unplugged the receiver and it seemed to resolve it, or so I thought.

This is where it gets good. Tonight I was walking by the speakers and heard the hum again. I’m like WTF!!! Receiver is off, so I unplugged it. Speakers still humming!!! Just to see what would happen I unplugged the speaker wires from the speakers, that’s right speakers still humming!!!

Any ideas? Help would be greatly appreciated. These things are scaring me, like their f’in alive!!!

You’ve got some serious frequency output near you. I remember when I was a kid, our neighbor behind us had a HUGE bad-ass ham radio setup, with a massive antenna in his back yard. Our stereo would pick up his transmissions, even when the stereo was off/unplugged as well. Are you close to a commercial power transformer or the like? Any serious RF very near you/the speakers?

Close to a cemetery? It might be time to move!!!

Not close to a power transformer but you got me thinking, the electric power meter, you know the ones the guys come and read is right outside the wall. Maybe?…

just out of curiosity, I don’t live by a cemetery but what could that do?

Move the speaker to another room away from the power meter and see if the hum stops.

If I remember my physics there is a magnetic field perpendicular to an electrical current.

Try moving your speakers away from the wall with the power meter and see if the hum goes away.

Hey Good Morning everyone and thanks for the replies. I have ruled out the power meter, checked just now and no hum.

Might be the 5G or Wi-Fi, my sons asleep right now but when he wakes up (11 or 12… ah to be young) and fires up his computer I’ll check. Keep you posted

Just pull power from your WiFi to check

I remember in college at an off campus apartment some guy had rigged up some amp to boost his CB transmitter feeding an antenna he put on a fence post behind his apartment. When my Onkyo TX-2500 Mk II was on his voice came through the speakers when he broadcast no matter what source it was set to. After visiting his apartment myself and he probably pissed off a number of neighbors I gather he took out his booster amp.

My neighbors run a Tijuana Taxi service out of the house next door, haven’t paid him a visit yet but I wonder if he is using some type of cb radio to communicate with the drivers.

Gonna have to pay him a visit. Keep you guys posted on what happens

Air conditioning compressor/condenser or HVAC motor running could cause enough vibration in the home to cause the hum. Even an evap cooler on the roof might also cause vibration.
Could be the neighbor's system causing the vibration.

I’d make sure your house wasn’t built on the site of an ancient Native American burial ground—even if the bodies were supposedly relocated. And whatever you do, if a portal opens up between the speakers—don’t go into the light, Carol Ann!

It’s not my system had it on today for the first time, no hum. So not from my Wi-Fi, electric power meter or hvac. I’m at a loss, gotta be something with the neighbors. Maybe it’s my wife’s, you know, toy :dunno:
