This is the result of too much time in a wood shop

I like the idea of fill and then stain\varnish.

Just sanding and staining the edges doesn't cut it, here's a set of stands I built a few months ago.

I have ZERO woodworking skills, and tools consist of a skillsaw and a cordless drill. So, I'm still in the practicing stage with scrap wood.

The stands look great! However, that speaker sitting on one of them (forth photo) is as ugly as a mud fence.:D

Very nice work and very nice wood shop Steve!

Thank's, the shop is owned by my friend Bob, who decided to bring me on board as part owner and get the new year off to a good start. The possibilities are endless, nothing like a shop all set up with a pair of Mach 4 Rhino speakers, :D he owns the second pair to mine and has them rockin the place. :thmbsp:

What fun!

Those stands look great, and yeah, cap the edges!

I think the stained wood to match the speaker cabs would look better than the black. Just my 2c!

Look forward to the final results.

I didn't make them for any specific speaker, but for having a large bookshelf speaker on the floor, they will certainly help.

I was expecting something comical with that "too much time. .." title but it's serious business. ;)

Strong work, Steve! I have to haul my stuff out into the driveway to do anything, but the leaf-blower cleanup sure is easy. :D

It's amazing what you can make with the right tools, and a little time. I'm getting my self motivated to tackle the 4430 cabinets, I'm tired of seeing these drivers, and crossovers just sitting here. I do have a pair already, but they are sitting in Mass until I can get them picked up.

I plan on making a few more different type speaker stands, maybe some AR style, and JBL's also. It's a great way to use up all this scrap that would otherwise be thrown away.

Wow nice skillz!!!! Can't wait to see the matching dining table. To small for my butt though...lol....really great skills wish I had room for a woodworking shop in my "Man Cave". Too much HP in my garage.

I'm really looking forward to building a custom audio rack, it's very hard to find anything these days to hold the older, big, and heavy units. I would like something worthy of displaying my tube equipment, or any of the old super receivers from the 70's.

I'm in the process of building a plinth for a Dual 1209. My wood working shop has been down sized to a 12" compound miter on a dolly, router/table and drill press. Funny how you can plan ahead and build good, small, things with just those. Your right about weight and bulk of vintage equipment. Some of that stuff is heavy and take up a lot of venting room.

Ahhh, that's another project I'd like to do, a real furniture quality wood TT plinth. :thmbsp:

never too much time...

This is what I am doing to all my gear. Making platforms for the stuff to sit on with a fan under becoming part of the platform.
The fan is a 12V dc powered by an orphan wall wart.
Make sure the wall wart has enough amps output.

Nobody says you need a dedicated area to do some decent stuff. Here's my garage in "woodshop" mode ... main feature is some really good roller feet that lock down.
