THIS is what a proper amp looks like... Ashly FET-500

So James, the word is out....Bowtie turned me on to Ashly a number of years ago. I'm also looking for a mate to mine. Also 250 WPC with a pushbutton bridge for mono operation. I'd like one per side for my Infinity RSII b's.

Won't need a sub with those....

That 2000 M in there is what was used in the local theater where I got those EV/Altec horns from.
Now it's all QSC ISA series amps though.
 
My Soundcraftsmen is feeling inadequate right now. That Ashly is a bad ass amp. Good thing I don't need an amp that big. :D

Dang ! That's a heap of iron. How large is your basement ? My backyard/party setup consists of an Outlaw M200 performing sub duty, and any one of my current spare 2-channel amps (Phase Linear 400 Series 2, Adcom GFA-1 and SAE 2300) on mids/tops. That is more than plenty loud without aggravating the neighbors.
 
Yeah, I could replace the fan too, or even unplug it all together. I won't very often be running a lot of power on this amp, and it has a thermal protection if it does get too hot. Not like I would be able to damage it without a fan even.

I'd have to go hunt down the manual again to get the draw.. I won't be drawing that much day to day.. .very seldom would I be pushing it.
 
Don't unhook the fan altogether Simi. There are no provisions for convection whatsoever, the cooling flow is totally horizontal and must be induced. You can slow it down, or use a smaller quieter fan, but without at least a minimal draft, the amp will eventually overheat, even idling.
 
Ok.. thanks Tom.. Yeah, I can see what you mean. I'll get it slowed down some how. Shouldn't be too big a deal..

My junk's got so much rack rash I have to itch it every once and awhile. :D

Nice Ashly! I, too, only equate them with their crossovers and compressors.
