Today was the second time we had this guy serve us at the checkout of our supermarket. He'd be about 18/19 yrs. The first time was memorable as he explained a brain fade as having "a Johnny Cash song" stuck in his head. The conversation began, and by the end we were both singing praises of "The Queen is Dead".
Today, after a month or so, we get the same guy at the checkout and remember each other and our previous music conversation. This time we start talking jazz, and he's telling me about a saxophonist that used to play with Davis and I'm saying "who!". Then we start talking about Brubeck, and before long he's recommending me this Japanese funk record from 1974. He wrote in down on my docket, and here I share it with you.
Artist: Jiro Inagaki
Title: Funky Stuff
Year: 1974
Luckily enough, here is the full album on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtsTjL_WILQ
I'm 3/4 through on headphones and it's quality. Hipster checkout guy says you'll pay $500 for a copy (one release he says)??
Anyway, it's cool, very cool. I'm happy to pass it on, from my new hipster store mate!
Enjoy!
