had my eye on a Stromberg Carlson console that Bowtie427ss had in his basement the first time I visited him a couple of years ago. This time, when I drove up for my high school reunion, I made sure to drive a van, and make time to swing by his place. Cost me a pair of nice JBL L-88's, but well worth it in my opinion....

As you can see, it's already made itself at home. There's a few scratches on the top, and one small place on the lower left hand corner that about an inch of veneer has been stripped away, but otherwise, it's in fine shape...

Some of you may recognise the amp. It's an ASR-433, my 2nd, and since I've already done one full restore, it shouldn't be a big deal to do another in time... I haven't even ID'ed the tuner yet...:D

Cool TT too...

That's quite elegant, AA. Looks almost like the old Sherwood gear with the white faced control panels. Amazing that its all original and un-dinked with. That is, no one attempted to retrofit some 80s BPC into it.

Cheers,

David

That's a pretty sweet looking cabinet for sure. Would love to see some internals..

I could just see one of those old plastic sheet records you used to get in the cereal boxes with a penny on it spinnin on that platter.. :D

It looks like "i'll just put it over here and stack enough various stuff on it that it'll never strike her as something new:D

You really should open one of the enclosures and snap a pic of the driver load, i had some pics but haven't seen them in a couple years and i doubt i saved them on a disc anywhere.

Yes, almost looks built-in.

Lovely looking console and great amp! :thmbsp:

Now I know what he wants a new house.. no where else to stick all the stuff he keeps collecting with no intentions to use...

It should be a nice resto for Allan, the last time it was powered up(couple years ago) it was working fairly well considering it's age and untouched condition. Hopefully he'll go all the way thru the tuner too as it was still able to pull both AM and FM stations on the floor of our little valley(we have notoriously poor reception) with just a few feet of wire for an antenna.

It's even got some of that good NY dust on it too!

I'm gonna get a round tuit....

...assuming I don't wind up a CL ad sooner than later. I really need a man cave to spread out and get organized, along with the listening space. No this one will get done at some point. I'm almost tempted to stick my restored amp into it while I work on the "new" one....:thmbsp:

And as far as being a pack rat, I don't deny it, but I prefer the term collector....:D

Christine, sorry I didn't have a chance to catch up to you in person. Losing the NYC part of my trip kinda made that impossible given the tightness of my schedule. Next time I'm visiting Bakes up in Albany, I'm hoping I can make it down....

I will see if I can get the back end off for a picture. I did pull the 6BQ5's and ran them quickly through my tester. 3 German made SC labeled tubes testing about 70%, and a Zenith marked Sylvi testing almost new. Not hard to picture the scenario.....

Sweet console. Good thing I didn't run across that thing...I have no room for something like that right now.

No problems, Allan. This way I can relax for a while and don't have to hide my VOM console. :D

That changer looks to be exactly like one I have. Mine is a Heathkit but they were OEMd by Glaser Steers/Voice of Music (I thinkd. Does it have a selection on the speed dial of "speed minder" ? If so you can inter mix 7" and 12" records and it will land the arm at the correct position and shift between 45 and 33 RPM as needed. Kind of cool to watch.
Overall a very nice consol.
