I’ve come to ask for your assistance

I have a lovely Thorens 125 with a grace 840f tonearm with a Primaluna integrated prologue premium.

Could you make a suggestion for a cartridge. I’m looking to spend around 400$

I am thinking Grado, audio technical etc.

your opinions please

thank you!

Effective mass of the 840f is 18 grams according to the info on vinylengine for those that want to help match up a cartridge.

What phono amp are you using with the system or is that part of the move you are making?

Speakers and type of music and your desires on sound quality if you have some choices. Cartridges are like speakers, they make the sound of the system.

prima Luna

schiit phono pre amp

currently running infinity cs 3006 (bigger) bookshelves. Will upgrade to more modern speakers soon (possible kef, tekton etc)

I mainly listen to jazz records these days. I am looking for detail. I have a Grado plus on my other table (thorens 160) and enjoy it.

thank you for your input

You have a phono amp, tonearm and budget that will allow you to nestle comfortably into the moving coil cartridge realm.

I would do that no question about it. They generally have low moving mass and just sound a bit better.

I'd look at what some of the retailers have in the price range as I've read a look of good comments about a few different ones. AT Art9, AT33 of some suffix and others. I'm set with cartridges so not learning what the different ones can do. Since the Ortofon 2M Black and Bronze are some of the better mm carts and many MCs sound better it's the way I would go.

Maybe see what's available and search ak for them then ask questions.
