Thorens TD-160 and Rega RB300 or OL Silver

Hi guys,

currently I am having a play with two tables. One is my old Rega Planar 3, and the Other is Thorens TD 160.

I have One tonearm (brand new) Origin Live silver mk2.

I have a couple of options:
1. Remove the original rb300 and fit OL silver onto rega
2. fit original rb300 onto Thorens using the adapter plate that can be bought online.
3. Leave rega table alone, and fit OL silver onto the thorens, using the same adapter plate.

I would like opinions , issues , ideas etc?

I plan to use either my Ortofon mc20mk2 or Ortofon mc20 super for the time being.

Cheers

I'd put it on your Rega Planar 3. Thorens & Rega arms aren't a good combo. SME works much better with Thorens. You'll have to grind down the subchassis on the Thorens to fit the Rega arm.

The Rega arms like Terra Firma as the Romans might say.
The Rega turntables are also like a very Terra Firma environment.
Although mine came with a felt TT matt. But I digress.
.
The Thorens TT are 3-point suspension with a more ethereal sense.

I tried a Rega tone arm with way to heavy interconnect cables from the Rega tone arm on a Thorens TT, it all looked like a good shotgun marriage on paper, but this was no ‘Sound of Music’, an expensive lesson, as I painfully recall.

I would look at what others have used (tone arms) on Thorens TT.
Most of the upgrades I have seen are SME.
I’m chiming in on what Ilikevinyl said in a pervious post.

All the Thorens tone arms looks and feels cheesy, they work remarkable well, go figure! It does not make sense!

The only flimsier tone arm is the one on the original AR turntable, which never made sense to me either.

I would of put the Rega arm on my AR TT but for the fact I would have had to drill through metal.

The Rega arm is a real engineering wonder with a solid feel and well it put Rega on the map.
