Thorens TD 160B and 160 mk II, Online Auction, Smith Falls ON

Mention to them that a pic of the cartridge even though this isn't the main part of the sale could get a higher maxsold number.

One sold for $500 and the other sold for $261. Retail pricing pretty well without the chance to test them out beforehand. The one that went for $261 was missing the stylus but had a Shure cartridge, and the dust cover was cracked at the hinges removing the ability to stand it up. Basically a removable cover. No deals on that one!

I was actually considering it, but it looked like it had seen better days. I figure the same person got all three.

Nope. I got the Advent, but would never spend that much on those tables. John Thompson has some cleans Thorens tables including a TD-160 for sale at the Record Centre for less money, and a buyer can try them out. Why would anyone pay more for an untested table?

It's awfully hard to get a good deal on Maxsold for the things I'm interested in these days.:(

23 bucks on the bay gets a set of hinge repair tabs to return full functionality to the dust cover.

We are kinda tuned in to better pricing on tts but notice they have gone way up on the last 3-4 years. Admittedly one could not get a full test of these tables but the cheaper one might have been worth the money what with the prices some of the Pio/Mar/Sui tables have been gettings. The newer one, maybe the later version of the arm gets some bids, IDK, never had a working Thorens with a Thorens arm.

Yeah, I was tempted for those very reasons, but the facts that I have 3 Thorens tables and my current TD-160 cost me less than $10 (albeit without a dust cover) made me realize that paying that much for another TD-160 was going to be difficult to justify to She Who Must Be Obeyed.

Lol, yes, there is always that. In my case, I already have a minty TD-160 that I paid $180 for. Even then, I got it for a good price. But it is between pays, and the hinges might have added an extra $30 with exchange, plus duty. The last time I bought from the US, I got reamed on belts. I bought two belt kits that added up to $25, and the duty I paid was almost $40! So I’m looking twice at anything I may have to buy parts from cross border.

And I keep reminding myself I have way too much stuff right now as it is. Hopefully, that changes this weekend.

The Advent 300 turned out to be better cosmetically than it looked in the pics. Need to clean and DeOxit the innards before trying to fire it up. They told me that the owner of this and the Thorens tables had over 8,000 albums, sold in an earlier auction.

Clean as a whistle and works perfectly! The gamble paid off. Wish they all had. It is now blasting some FM on a set of Mini Advents.
