Thorens TD-166mk2 Vs JVC QL-5!

I hooked up my just finished JVC to a system I use for basic testing in the LR.

It sounds Damned Good! Live Sound stage!

I am thinking of putting it up in my Thorens system?:scratch2:

Any Thoughts?

From what I've heard those JVCs are good tables. Try em both out. They are two totally different tables so it will be interesting to hear the differences. Let us know what you think.

Don't knock a good JVC, I like their better DD turntables very well in looks and sound. And if you want or need a good automatic, their best models should be looked at, I like many of them by any standard. And they look good too. Consider one when you need automatic and DD and a nice tonearm, you won't be sorry.
 
I have heard a few Thorens units, and while good back in the day, I don't really expect them to compare to the JVC sonically.

I have a Y66F, and I would put it up against many a more expensive rig.

Much depends on set up and carts, etc, but all things equal, they won't be . . .

Ehh I wouldn't go that far. A properly set up Thorens sounds pretty damn good.
 
Still playing the JVC, Sinatra sounds great! I like to use Vocals in testing, more than instruments.:scratch2: I could upgrade the cartridge on the Thorens, DL110 maybe?

Hi! I have the same JVC TT! I'm very happy with it. I put a Nagaoka mp110 cartridge and sounds very good.
Could you give me some recommendations to improve their performance??

I have a Thorens TD166mk2 with An Audio Technica AT20SLa cartridge and a JVC QLA-7 with a Denon DL-103 cartridge. Very happy with both turntables.

Damn right. I would wager that 75% of the vintage Thorens tables out there are not set up right. My TD166 MkII holds its own with my TD-147, Luxman 121U with Infinity Black Widow arm, and Empire 698.
