Thorens TD 190-2 ??

Saw a Thorens TD 190-2 for a very good price today, has anyone had any experience with this particular model? I've read some positive reviews on it and i'm jonesin`for a new deck :D or...should i mod my SL-1500 :dunno:

Thanks & Cheers

Mod your 1500. It's not to hard to change the arm, as arm boards are available for several arms. I'm thinking of doing the same thing on mine this summer.

I have no experience with the 190, however it is a completely different approach to turntables than the Technics, if the price is right it might be fun to try. :thmbsp:

I've heard those are a quite respectable table for an automatic. I know that if you fill in all the extra space in the plinth with some form of non-hardening modeling clay (electrical duct seal at lowes or home dept works well) you would see some substantial improvements too.

Well, if you're searching for an acceptable, entry-level hifi class belt drive model, that's in fact a slightly modified Dual CS455-1, and the price is really low... I'd nevertheless recommend to consider a proper classic Dual or a proper classic Thorens instead.

I've also heard some good about the TD 170-1, and it's less $$.

That's a slightly modified Dual CS435-1, and it ranges a tad above the toy class (e.g. AT-PL50 et cetera). Technically, it can't even really compete with a modest Technics SL-BD20 - although I'd put both into the average Joe consumer class. If you're looking for a hifi turntable, you'd better avoid that thingy...
