Thorens TD126 Mk. II tonearm lift platform

I am just starting on a referb of the TT. The positives dead quiet running, good speed control, all lights work.

The Mode switch was frozen but dabbing rust buster around the shaft for a couple days allowed it to turn, it took a scary amount of torque to free it, and cycling the switch loosened it up.

The issue the lift platform (bar) is about 1/4" below tone arm and when in low position. The bar seems to raise and lower OK. It does not contact the tonearm at it's high position. Close inspection of bar top appears to show a glue or double face tape residue where something was glued. Maybe a foam or rubber strip.

That is the question, should the bar top have something on top of the metal bar?

Thanks for the help
