Thorens TD160 suspension setup

Hi to all.
I have recently tried to setup my stock suspension for the first time on my TD160.I got it bouncing fairly evenly and the platter sitting about 6mm off the top face of the table. The issue i have is that when i place the tonearm back in the holder it is pushing down on the suspension. It was doing this before i tried to set it up so not sure if this should be the case. I would assume not. Any advise much appreciated.

The tonearm lift height is adjustable. lower it a bit and you won't have to push the suspension down. That or put the arm in the lowered position to lock it in. either will work.

The method I use to adjust the suspension is to get it so that if you lift up on the spindle on the platter, there is about 1/8" clearance to the top. In other words, the internal frame floats with 1/8" clearance from the top of it's travel. Then you tweak the adjustments so the platter is level in all directions. You have to first make sure that the plinth is level, placing shims underneath the table as needed.

Is there a problem? I'm not sure but if the OP means when he rests the tonearm in the arm rest - it's pushing on the suspension... That's the way it is. The suspension springs to life (no pun intended) when the tonearm is free of the arm rest.

When I first got my 160 and adjusted the suspension the same thing happened. I adjusted the lift and now it snaps into the rest and doesn't compress the springs. Still have plenty of clearance for cueing.

Thanks for all the advise guys, much appreciated. Well i had another look at the 160 today and took out 2 spacers between the cartridge and head shell which gave me some space so to speak to adjust the lift height so the tonearm would sit were i wanted it to. All worked out.

Removing the shims in the cartridge changed the VTA. I would check this is.
