Thoughts on JVC S-M3 speakers?

I discovered these when browsing ebay today, and I was wondering what people thought of them. They seem to be a two way speaker with a 5in woofer and a metal casing, and they look to be of decent quality. Does anyone know how they would compare with ads l300's, or the smaller realistic minimus 7's? Thanks.

Can’t say regarding the comparisons, but some of the small JVC speakers are surprisingly good. I’d guess the bottom end is a bit better than a the Minimus 7, but probably not as good as the ADS.

Are you sure they're metal? They look like they could be all plastic.

My guess is that they're somewhere in between the ADSes and the M7s.

ETA: Yes, they are metal.

That was about my thoughts as well; minimus 7's are great but they are not the highest end speaker, even in their size. Anyways, the JVC's probably aren't worth the $120 they go for on ebay, especially since I could get a pair of canton speakers for that price. I'm still very tempted though, since I'm a fan of both small speakers and 70s JVC gear.

I have a pair. They're all-metal, and they weigh a ton, for their tiny size: like bricks. The drivers are top quality. One of my little woofers is blown. I wanted to use the tweeters elsewhere but can't, because they're glued in, with epoxy. Everything is glued together – the drivers are glued to the baffles, and the baffles are glued to the cabinets. No doubt this prevents spurious vibrations – it also prevents using them. If your pair works, I've no doubt they're good speakers.

Hmm, that could also be an issue when they need recapping. The back of the speaker looks like it may be removable, have you tried that?

I found out that JVC also had a larger version of these speakers called the s-m5, which are much closer to the ads l300s. Considering the general concensus on the quality of the smaller s-m3, they may be a decent speaker.
