Thoughts on the SX-6000?

I was previously using an SX- 737 as my main rig and loved the warm, tubey sound. It’s now in need of repair and I recently got an SX-780 to fill in until it’s fixed. I love the 780, but it’s definitely not as warm and musical as the 737. Now I’ve seen an SX-6000 pop up on Marketplace and after talking to the owner, he’s interested in trading it for my 780. I’ve read many reviews of the 6000 and it sounds like it’ll get me back closer to the sound of the 737 (some claim better). Thoughts on trading my 780 for the 6000? One other key detail: I have a second 780 in my basement that lights up, but the relay never clicks.

Of course he is. That's a terrible deal for you though.

Get your 737 fixed. Where are you located? There are lots of members who could get your gear fixed. The SX-737 and 780 are usually pretty easy to work on.

Thanks for the insight. I'm in Springfield, IL and there aren't any shops in town that I trust. My closest bet would be somewhere in St. Louis ... unless I can find someone to fix it independently. To be honest, the only reason I'm even considering it is because of the second 780 sitting in my basement and my curiosity about the 6000, which looks to be in really good condition. But of course, the guy wants my best 780 with the best cabinet I have. The more I think about it, you're probably right ... I should just get the 737 repaired.

The 737 has always worked and sounded great. About a month ago, I had it running for about 7 hours straight and then the sound started randomly dropping out in the L and R channels. It did this with whatever input I selected and tested. I read somewhere on here to not turn it back on until it's serviced by a professional. But now I'm wondering if it just overheated and maybe some protective circuitry kicked in?
