Thoughts on vintage Luxman?

How do vintage (mid to late 70's) Luxman amps compare in sound and build quality to the same period Marantz, Sansui, Pioneer, Yamaha? I've seen some of their stuff on ebay and some pics of AKer's equipment. closer to Marantz or Yamaha?

Better sounding , save the Yamaha Vfets. Build excellent, but receivers tended to blow up! Big amps are rare but reliable. Japanese McIntosh, except they listened to what they built (sorry).

Build quality is fantastic, designs are bullet-proof, ratings are conservative. My brother has an L-430 that's just a beautiful machine... drives 4 ohm loads easily all day long and sounds great.

Beautiful pieces, wonderful sounding. Their vintage stuff is Mc quality, but as a rule of thumb you should stay away from any black faced Lux. Not all, but most of the black faced Lux are not up to the older Lux pieces.

Their separates are $$$, but their integrateds are high quality and actually reasonably priced.

A friend of mine has a 1050 receiver that is absolutely gorgeous, and I've been pounding him to sell it to me so he can get some AV all in one crap. Although he does not share my passion for audio, he simply says that he has yet to hear anything that sounds that good.

My experience has been that while they have great build quality they're also problematic. I've happily sent all my luxman gear away and I'm really not on the hunt for any more.
