thrift shop finds

i found several speaker sets at a thrift store. are any of these any good. realistic optimus p100, for $15, needs new woofers. yamaha nsa570, for $30, has a puncture in a woofer that could be repaired. sony ss-u4030 $12 in good shape. are any of these good quality speakers?

I'd loosely consider the Optimus for $15, might need a refoam, and not new woofers? Would make a nice "beater" speaker and good refoaming practice.

The Yammie is a nice one, I'd probably grab that for $30 and look for a driver replacement on eBay, repairing the one as it sits. Is the puncture in the cone paper material or the foam? If it's the foam, a $20 foam kit will cure that ailment pronto.
 
Any chance that Optimus model number is T100, not P100? If so, I've heard them and they sound pretty dang decent. For $15, if the cabs/grills are in good shape, I'd be tempted to nab 'em and hope a woofer makes itself available one day. Although I haven't heard the Yamahas, I'd prolly at the very least give 'em a quick listen (if this is possible). Can't say one way or the other about the Sonys, but I've gathered that alot (maybe most) of their speakers are somewhat less than stellar. - Mark
 
i consided getting the optimus, i could get away with replacing 1 woofer and slight repairs on another. the yamahas seem a little pricey for a thrift store at $30. i'll wait and see what else i can find, i really wanted shorter speakers that would fit under my work table. the optimus and yamahas are too tall. but i thought if they were really good speakers i'd get them. Another thrift store had a technics that was pretty decent, would need a new surround on the sub, but they only had one. i need a pair.

if the realistic optimus are indeed T100's and have two eight inch woofers in each cabinet then BUY THEM BUY THEM these are great little speakers and sound really goood with up to about 60 or 70 watts per. they are in decent cabinet and have an adjustable tweeter this is a no brainer BUY THEM if you ressurect them you will not be dissapointed. i bought a pair in near mint at a yard sale for $25. onwardjames said he would double my money on them. of course i gave him the middle finger. the paper tweeter sounds great smooth rolloff. and the woofers get down on my pioneer sa950 (70 wpc).

well i went to the thrift store to get the realistics and they were gone, the yamahas were gone too. i went to another thrift store and found some mitsubishi ss-2100's in really good condition for $50 and some 2 fishers 1 fs-320 and the other was missing the tag. for $15. i wasn't sure about either one. the 2 fishers were actually a little different, they looked identical with the grills on but the drivers were in different locations when u pulled the grills off. I think they would sound the same probably slight differences in the model numbers. Anybody know anything about either of these. the mitsubishi's really did look nice, i just don't know how they sound.
 
on to another thrift store (i've caught the bug). i found a set of realistic optimus-1 for $16 in pretty good shape, all drivers in good shape, cabinet in good shape except for some scratches, grills in almost perfect condition. I haven't cranked them up yet but at a decent volume they sound really good, i'm impressed. i wasn't gonna risk another set of speakers getting sold before i bought them, so i bouht them when i found them.
 
The next step will be to buy a pair and refoam them. Talk about a nice feeling to get a quality pair of speakers up and running again...

Welcome to the obsession. I hope there are several thrift stores close to your house.
