This actually happened about a year ago but I thought you guys would get a kick out of it. I went to a local thrift and there sitting with dusty junk was a Mitchell A. Cotter "blue brick" MC transformer. I honestly didn't know the significance of the unit but thought $2.99 was fair enough!!!!! I was probably stupid, but I fleabayed it and lets just say I made some coin.
Does anyone have any insights as to why these are so desirable? And was I nuts to sell it?

This is a prime example of leaving some documentation with your relatives before you die,of the value of the "useless junk' you own.

If you ever wanted to try-out low output MC cartridges, you'll will wish that you handn't sold it, as that was a very good stepup.

The Cotter units (also known as Verion, but there was some sort of legal problem with that name) have long been known as one of the best, and certainly among the most flexible, of the passive MC step up transformers.

Current high-end audiophiles will nitpick that the silver wire connectors (revolutionary when the unit was produced) are too long, and there are more than a few retrofits described on-line to eliminate this "shortcoming".

But the key attributes: dead quiet, perfect response, and the ability for the user to vary the unit to optimize impedance with your specific MC cartridge, have made it a worthy competitor to the most expensive passives available today. The units have a very loyal following.

I tried sniping for ages on THAT site without success, as the final prices have always been extremely high. Out of the blue, I got one for free, a toss-in with a system I purchased. It will NEVER leave my clutches. :music:
