Thrift Store Technics

So this just happened. Pair of Technics SB-4500A sitting in the thrift store this morning!

All drivers and grilles. Cabinets arent perfect and are missing some vinyl veneer, one is missing a terminal screw down and the grilles have tears and woofer dust caps dented in but they came to $7.50 + tax after my vet discount!

A few years ago I got a pair of Marantz HD 66 for $3.99 at a local thrift store.
Great buys do open occasionally.
But not all that often, and those scores should not be included when someone asks about the value of a piece of gear.

A few years ago I bought a very clean Pioneer SX-780 at Goodwill for $13.95 out the door. None of the controls were scratchy, all the lamps and meters worked and the cabinet was very nice also. I recapped the power supply just for good measure and gave it to my youngest son as part of a starter system. Its the only time I've found anything worth getting from Goodwill so far.

I've got the JCPenney Version of those or whomever Technics were private labeling them for. I built some stands and teamed them with a Yamaha YB-B4 TT, and an Onkyo TX-2500 Reciever, that was a great system, I was impressed with how good everything sounded together. My stands were baltic birch plates tied together with black pipe with flanges on each end. They sounded nice about 4' off the floor.

I had the three way version with the horn tweeter and felt it punched well above it's weight class. Enjoy them.
