Mostly mid-'70s stuff. I like the warm sounds -- and the cool lamps. Sometimes I'll just turn everything on and lower the room lights, whether I'm listening or watching a movie. They make for lovely, soothing (if relatively expensive) nightlights. Anyway, this is the kind of stereo showroom listening I grew up on. View attachment 2097654View attachment 2097655

I set up an impedance-matched switch (on top of the McIntosh) to choose between upper and lower sets of speakers, or all four at the same time. (Only the AV Marantz is hooked up to surrounds and the subwoofer, though.) Another switch chooses between amps/receivers in the horizontal console or in the stack on the right, and yet another chooses between the individual amps. Others select between the CD/Blu-ray players, MacMini/USB DACs, and turntables. The idea was to set up comparison switching like they had in stereo showrooms in the '70s, where you could instantly choose between sources, amplifiers, and speakers. It makes for quite a rats' nest of cables, though!

I can relate. Takes me back to my childhood of those late night listening sessions with my father and his system, my brothers and their systems, and then finally me and my own system of all the "hand-me-down" gear from my father and brothers. It pays off being the baby of the family sometimes! Man, I miss those days.
