Seriously, though, I've been saddled by tons of gear most of my adult life that don't get their fair share of use - tens of cubic feet in speakers, too many amps, turntables, everything now makes my head spin.

Been thinking seriously about downsizing so I can actually enjoy music again, maybe a small pair of powered 2 way monitors and a powered sub hooked to my PC.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the stuff you've accumulated?

I've tried it a few times, and always regretted it and gone back to separate components and better gear. Truly, the all-in-one solutions I've tried did not sound good enough for my taste. (However, some nice smaller active speakers with a powered sub could be very rewarding.)

Yep. In just about every hobby I have ever been into. I had a Ham Shack at one time you would not believe. It looked like the control room at WCBS in New York City. I sold just about everything, and kept a few prize gems. Lots of guys do a "Shack Clearing" when they find they have accumulated more gear than they will ever use in 10 lifetimes.

In photography, I spent 15 years collecting twin lens reflex cameras, 2 1/4 single lens like Hasselblad, and a ton of Canon SLR equipment. Finally cut back to one Olympus Rangefinder and my photography was never better.

But in Audio, I have just enough. I have a few homes so I have a rig in key rooms in each. Separate systems from Mac to Yamaha to Realistic and a few in between.

I know how you feel. Let us know if you do a purging.

I get overwhelmed when the gear starts to impede on the sound quality in my listening areas. Needless to say, I get rid of stuff on a frequent basis. I get the wanting to collect bit but for me it's about listening to music, not collecting gear, so when collecting impedes on that it's time for stuff to go.

wOW...I'm backwards from most. there was lots of stuff growing up, but we were really close to Mt. St. Helens. Feet of ash...it was to this day the scariest event in my life, 12 days before I turned 16, we lived elsewhere the next day. From 17 to 29 the USN issued sea bag held everything, I moved my stuff from there into the saddlebags of a Harley.
Met a beautiful lady, my daughters mother, 14 years ago, now I'm swimming in 6 acres of castoff electronics. I have to get rid of 15 ton a week....

Simple is really cool...some days I miss it.
