Tinnitus

A little of topic but....my Dad was deaf in one ear for years, put it down to industrial deafness (tuning engines etc). He (was) the kind of guy who only goes to the doctor if he is dying. Seriously, he went to the doctor twice in 20 yrs, both times close to death from a bleeding ulcer (the 1st actually ruptured, leaking stomach acid into his system, the 2nd time my brother almost had to drag is ass into the ambulance, coz even though he was almost passed out fom blood loss, he insisted he was OK) To cut a long story short, one night in bed he sneezed, felt a pop in his head than realised he could again hear in stereo. Five years of deafness and all he had to do was get his ears cleaned!

My advice, go to the doctor

I've had it since I was about 10 or so. My years of drumming with no hearing protection didn't help, I'm sure, but I still have fairly decent hearing for being 48. I do tend to run the TV a bit louder than my wife would like, but seeing as how we don't watch that much TV it's really not an issue. At a guess, my threshold is about 14.5 or 15.5 kHz.
I do smoke a rather great deal and consume more coffee than would be considered healthy (a pot a day, usually)...one of these days, I'll try doing without one or the other or both to see (or hear) if the ringing fades or goes away.
But not today.

I would'nt wait too long Ed. I don't know if what you have can turn into an out right ear infection, but I did have a severe ear infection last year. It started out as just a full or clogged feeling in the ear....as they call it "swimmers ear". Within a week my inner ear was swollen shut and it was extremely painful. Antibiotics & Vicodin. It was no joke.

Don't want to alarm you, just saying DO get it checked:thmbsp:

"Go get a hearing test." "Tinnitus is usually associated with a hearing loss." "It could be caused by ear wax"

My mother is an audiologist.

I hope you hearing is okay, Ed.

During the past few months, I was experiencing some low level hash, intermittent ringing, and lowered sensitivity in my right ear. I blamed it on a firearm incident a few years ago. I clean my ears regularly with q-tips, but never pushing as to not compact wax. I even tried some of that Murine ear cleaner, with no relief. My right ear is waxier than my left, for some reason. Last week, during a loud listening session, a wax plug came out. I mean a bunch of wax. Disgusting.

The ringing is gone, and my hearing is now balanced. Hopefully, a good cleaning will be all you need.

I've had temporary ringing from loud concerts and guitar. It ain't fun.

"Steerin' Test ?!? Steerin' Test ?!? I don't need no Steerin' Test, I can drive jus' Fine..." That was what this one old janitor told me when I told him the company was gonna start having hearing tests...

I feel for you, I haven't progresed to Tinnitus yet but have been diagnosed with Menieres. For about the past 10 yrs. I can have a sudden onset of vertigo/nausea anytime, anywhere.

I have to keep Dramamine/Mecalizine on me at all times. As I understand it this is a precursor to Tinnitus.

No remedy that I've heard about for Menieres except for a low salt diet and water pills to release fluid from the body and possibly surgery. As I understand it fluid around the ears is a big problem.

My doctor told me specifically it has to do with the transfer of fluid across the inner ear membrane thus the water pill.

Good luck, not much help.....................R1

Well, I got the Ginko Biloba. I can't say if I'm just getting used to it, or if it's getting better on it's own, but it is a lot better today. I'm going to keep taking the stuff for a while and see what happens. And I'll go to the Dr. as soon as I get back from vacation. If you have't tried the stuff, might give it a shot.
