Tips on current setup

Just wondering if anyone can give me some tips on improving my current setup, I am open to any and all suggestions. I love the amp and speakers, just want to be wowed again. Perhaps by qualities like tighter bass, more soundstage, more separation. Let's say my budget is 1,000-1,500 from where I am at below....All of which I would rather spend on vinyl but if I can get more quality in my sound I'll take it.


Current setup:

• Pro-ject debut carbon with blue ortofon cartridge
• Yamaha a-s501 integrated amplifier (also using the built in phono stage)
• Set of Ohm C2 speakers
• Pioneer SW-8MK2 100 watt subwoofer (used on very low setting to avoid too much 'boominess')

Room space:

• Medium sized 25'x30' room, tile floor vaulted cieling

Strictly used for turntable / digital music at medium volume

Music preference:

• Electronic
• Ambient
• Jazz
• Classical

If you are into vintage speakers, look for some bigger ADS speakers, good all around sound. I'm not sure how much power your amp puts out, you may want to step that up also. You have alot of options with that budget.

I believe the amp is 85 watts per channel, specs say

• 120W x 2 (max), 85W x 2 (RMS) high power output

Not exactly sure how to read that to be honest. The speakers I got a good deal on and liked their look, haven’t seen too many reviews of the Ohm C2’s and I don’t have too much to compare them to except some smaller audioengine powered speakers that aren’t too great. Thanks for the reply. I was wondering is a good preamp would be worth it or if I would even notice a difference.

Room treatment !!!
from your description, massive reflections.
One large rug or two smaller ones, in front of the speakers will change things a bit.
Small cost for quite a change.
Speaker placement changes of inches at a time, will also show rewards.

The Ohm c2 seems to get good reviews, make sure your woofer surrounds are in good shape. Ohm I think still does customer support so you can get factory parts I think. That amp should be fine, I will look it up when I get home. Sounds like you should have a o.k. little system, if everything is in good shape.sometimes sub woofers can muddy your bass, i.e. wrong placement, frequency.

That's a very big room, do the speakers fill the space with sound well enough for you? Or are you a 'sit in the sweet spot' listener anyway?
